I often feel rather sad when a prolific poster like btimsah gets banned. Sure, he was annoying, frustrating, and impossible to convince of his errors. But at least he had a different point of view and sparked some interesting conversations.
In the wake of a banning, I sometimes find the board a bit duller. But only a bit. :wink:

As should be evident, I have no problems per se with people who may not hold mainstream viewpoints. They just have to hold them politely. The same goes for people with whom I agree.

Just a minor nitpick, but at 152 posts I would hardly consider btimsah1 a prolific poster. Why, even my 601 posts could hardly be considered prolific, not when compared to your 2055 posts!Originally Posted by Donnie B.

I know I'm only new here, but, it seems to me that apart from the people who seem to deliberately post to provoke, the others who got banned seemed to forget their status and their responsibility. Their status makes them comfortable on the site but is also a beacon for some individuals to get as a trophy.
As a long time poster on another site I always keep in mind that the my status is more a disadvantage to good discussion. Some look at it like it's actually a direct measure of importance or inteligence, quite sad but true. Others feel intimidated and some do look for bringing down that trophy. Personally I would get rid of the whole status concept and leave it as a level playing feild. Regular posters would know who is who anyway.
Just a tip for not getting banned, it's like riding a motocycle on a busy highway : Assume everyone is out to get you and allway's keep a safety margin.

It was a fairly productive return in only one month though!
Not so much lunar conspiracies, but he would come across an image with what he thought was an anomaly, then post it without offering any evidence for why or what that anomaly might be, and then get frustrated because we weren't getting excited over it.Also, while I haven't reviewed all of his posts, it appears to me that he mainly posted about lunar conspiracies and such. I could be wrong, though.
My guess is that he was young, got excited about the whole Keith Laney scene and then got annoyed that the rest of us weren't falling over ourselves in equal excitement. I think he felt the sceptical questions and objections that were being raised were a personal attack.(Although by the end, it was getting a bit ugly, to which I contributed more than I should.)
I hope that one day soon he reads the 'Baloney-Detection Kit' section in Sagan's "Demon-Haunted World" - I think he would benefit a great deal from it.

We've turned him around on the Apollohoax issue. He's conceded all arguments and generally understands the conspiracists are crap, but we only able to do this by setting a situation where we ignore all the other conspiracy theories he indulges.

earth orbit has exposed his true colours as a GUCT proponent. He has started a couple of 911 innuendo threads. Maybe Ong might return and we can sort some of this stuff out. Unfortunately, while Ong was open to what we have to say about the Apollohoax, he seems to have his mind made up about the rest.

Orion38 had some posts earlier today (31 May) but seems to have gotten himself banned by the late evening. Anyone notice the offending thread. I couldn't find it. Not that I'm shedding too many tears, but I'm curious. :-?

From this thread, it looks like he was banned for use of sock-puppets. In this case, Aldrin (also banned).

Just for clarification how someone can try to debate science (cosmology Orion 38) and trying to debate also UFO and Aliens as secondary interest for relaxing the stress of being too serious in scientific discussion.That is impossible using the same ID.
