Some businesses are still giving 0.65 on the dollar

I have heard that some businesses in the States are still giving 0.65 cents on the Canadian dollar. Is this just because it costs them money to go to the bank and exchange it, or is this just being dishonest? Really it is up to the person travelling to the States to change the money before hand....still 0.65 cents?

No different than when their was a significant difference, Canadian businesses would take American dollars - but wouldn't give you any "extra credit" for them. It's a cost thing.

First, I assume the only businesses taking Cdn funds would be those close to the border. It is up to retailers to decide policy. Much like trying to buy a book on this side of the border, at the listed US price with $US, retailers would not do this (though Walmart and Chapters/Indigo are now dropping prices).

Personally, before any trip stateside, I'd take some $US with me, anything else required, I'd withdraw cash from an ATM or use a credit card, as the exchange rate would be applied as the transaction is processed by the bank or credit card company.

SSSHHHH! Don't anyone mention the fact that this is merely part of the plot to annex Canada...

Most Canadian businesses on the border when the american dollar value was much higher the Canadian dollar did give a discount. Actually it is usually posted so the Americans can see the exchange rate. Recently they have not because the difference is not worth it. The Americans not giving the difference are just stiffing the Canadian shoppers.

B-b-but I thought Canada was already annexed and that's why their dollar hit parity with the USA dollar.
