    Miley Cyrus Investigation

Yes; oversensationalized headlilne... media does it to me, I finally get to do it to someone else. At least I'm admitting it.

    Hannah Montana ticket investigation
Now, the Arkansas Attorney General's office is collecting information for an investigation into why these tickets have sold so fast.
Ok; bots are possible, but so are a few more factors.
    - Popularity (Disney, Hype, peer pressure, etc)
    - Parents doing what they can to please their spoiled kids
    - Online ability, allowing thousands of tickets to be purchased concurrantly.
    - Relatively inexpensive tickets (at least compared to other popular artists)

Ooo! Can I report your thread to the "Slow News Day" thread? J/k

I'm a Foo-Fighter's fan...they've had multiple shows recently that sold out the first day that tickets were available, and they're just another band in the crowded popular-rock genre (don't get me wrong, I love them).

Change the attraction to a Disney-endoresed telivison pop-star with a legion of child-fans and it's not really suprising that a show would sell out quickly.

Personally, I'd rather sit through a day-long Billy Ray concert-fest than have to sit through a "Hanna" concert (and no, not particularly a fan of Billy Ray). All the over-acting only-popular-because-they-tell-kids-to-like-it star drives me nuts...unfortunately my g/f loves those shows despite the fact that she's nearly two-decades older than the target audience. :-P

I did give that some thought, but it's the investigation that I find absurd, and not the fact that they are reporting it.

It's no "secret" that ticket outlets (they used to be called "scalpers") are buying tickets to resell and they are over-inflating the prices as much as they "think" the market will allow.

That's the "story" here...not that they sold out fast, but how much they are being resold for.

She's okay. I watch her show sometimes, but only when nothing else is on. I find the secret identity dynamic to be interesting. The idea of "famous anonymity" is very engaging.

Miley Cyrus is Hannah Montana? Ha, next you'll be telling me that Peter Parker is Spider-Man. Man, we get some real nuts on this board... ;-)

    More hannah controversy.

    Hannah Montana Concert Body Double

Video posted on YouTube claims to catch a Hannah Montana body double on stage.
A label spokesperson for Cyrus confirmed to OK! Magazine in a statement that she does briefly use a body double in order to make a costume change.
    So? whats the issue?

I think it's just a way to air a bootleg section of the video. The body switch is about 2-1/2 minutes in.

Even more shocking: Hannah Montana is not a real person, just a character played by Miley Stewart -- I mean Miley Cyrus.

    Shh. Don't tell any tweeners.

It goes even deeper than that... Her name isn't even Miley. Her nickname was Smiley which eventually became Miley.

The young lady is from all reports a true class act. She broke the record for tickets at last year's Houston Live Stock Show and Rodeo (73,000 for one performance), and is scheduled back this year.

big deal.. back in '99, i stood in line for 6 hours in 20 degree windy late November Minnesota weather for tickets to one of the 2 Metallica/Kid Rock/Sevendust concerts in minneapolis in January of '00. BOTH shows were sold out in about 15 minutes.
a few days later, they added a third show, and i stayed home and got tickets thru www.Ticketmaster.com in the 10 minute time frame before they sold out. there wasn't any investigation, but it did get mentioned on the news that it set some kind of a record for selling out fastest- the Target Center holds something like 25,000 for "in the round" concerts, and they sold that out 3 times in a total period of under 1/2 hour.

Until Ms. Cyrus turns 18, I won't even discuss 'investigating' her in anyway.

Besides, Billy Ray would kill me.

I had heard the name/term "Hannah Montana" mentioned before, but I had no clue what it was. This thread made me look that up.

I'm not happy. That information is wasting brain cells. And making me mad that parents go to such extremes to sastify a bunch of spoiled brat "tweens".

They had an essay contest to give away tickets to some of this flatulence, and a mother allowed and encouraged her daughter to make up a story about her father being killed in Iraq to gain sympathy. She won. Then they found out the truth and took away the tickets. The fact that some mother would go those lengths just to let her little brat get to see this crap is just one of those "Stop, world I want to get off" moments.

A bunch of 20ish year-olds are wanting these tickets?

(Dammit, Professor Tolkien coined this term back in the fifties for twenty year olds and I refuse to use the new "hip" meaning )

Hey, I know who Billy Ray Cyrus is. He was the narrator for this The History Channel program.

If Billy Ray were metric, would his daughter be Kilometery Cyrus?

At least he's bringing back ancient Egyptian religion. During the concert segment of the referenced THC show, I could swear I heard some of the females in the crowd moaning "Oh, Cyrus!"

    OMG

This time she's gone way over the edge. Most young stars portray the usual sex, drinking, drug use, and general rudeness.

But this time Miley has crossed the line.
    Buckle up, Hannah Montana!
Miley Cyrus, who plays Hannah Montana on television, is seen in her new movie riding without a seat belt in the back seat of a Range Rover.
Ok; bad move by the directors. But; how often do you see anybody buckle up in movies?

I don't think kids parents paying outrageous prices for HM tickets is any different than adults paying outrageous prices for tickets to see acts like McCartney, Streisand, the Superbowl, Final Four, or whatever.

People have different tastes and different tolerance levels. Personally, I'd probably draw the line for a kids show at about $50. Other might think that is even foolish. Obviously, others are willing to pay several hundreds of dollars. I do not think it necessarily equates to being spoiled.

I think what's at work for people making that claim is that everybody should be like them, and have the opinion that HM is worthless. Or maybe just simple jealousy. Or something else; but just because someone can afford and is willing to pay the going market rate for something doesn't make them spoiled.

I think to support that a person would have to take a statistically valid sample of kids who wanted to go, but did not because there parents weren'y willing to pay; then demonstrate that they hold some kind of resentment towards their parents about it. Or maybe some sort of study on those that did go on what kind of implications they would percieve had they not been allowed to go. Without some sort of deeper look, the assumption that anybody who goes or wants to go is a spoiled brat is more telling of the person making the statement than anything.

Her father was in the back seat with her, also sans seat belt. Bad example, Billy Ray.

However, most states that have seat belt laws limit them to very young children and front seat passengers. So, they might have been legal.

I was thinking the same thing, but even here, that law keeps changing enough that it's hard to know for sure.

How many movies also have minors actually drive a vehicle?

    Not here, they wouldn't be.

I'd have to stop and think about other people in movies and seatbelts. Unfortunately, the movie I'm currently watching is set in the 1940s, so that's no help, and one of the other movies I've got lined up for today is Cyrano de Bergerac, so that's even less help. I'll keep an eye out, though, now it's been mentioned.
