I always thought a society was made up of people and their actions.

I think it depends on pespective. For those that view people as sheep, or sheepish; then what's needed is a change in society - whatever the heck that means.

If you view people as thinking individuals who get to make choices and experience the consequences - then all that is really needed is to get off the behind and put down the donuts.

I think most people fall closer to being sheep, and as a group will continue to get fatter and fatter (on average) while they wait for their parents (in the form of I-know-what-is-good-for-you politicians to pass laws regulating food intake and exercise requirements.

It is possible that the pedestrian was at fault in the accident--and I was sure that would be the case. After reading the article, I'm sure it wasn't. I don't understand how the driver was found to have "committed no illegal actions", or however they worded it. It sounds like the pedestrian was doing nothing wrong, and the driver was driving wrecklessly...leading to a fatality. If that's not vehicular homicide, I don't know what is.

Yeah; that's what I was looking for in the article too. There had to be some contributory neglegence before most people would even start to consider that.

But; even if the victim had some contribution to the accident, I'm sure the media wouldn't mention it. Afterall; victims are always innocent in the news, otherwise it wouldn't be news.

So define "repeatedly." For a start, I've known people who can't cook, so they ate all their meals out. If they have all three meals in the same place in one day, is that being "repeatedly" fed? Three meals a week? Three meals a month? Silly.

I don't agree that fast food is addictive by any means. What are the ingredients that make it so?

It is just ultra convenient.
It usually isn't even very good, but it's fast and easy. Compared to a full course restaurant it's cheap.

If I want to get fast food, or if I want to get fat, that is my own business. No one elses. No one has the right to tell me how to eat or what to eat or when I should eat it. I know the consequences of a poor diet. I don't need a nanny.

I have a strong fast metabolism.
So me getting fat would be about as easy as it would for me to grow breasts. It just aint gonna happen.

However, I am not out of the woods. Energy is something I use and require in vast amounts. Strong heart and blood. Now if I'm clogged up with cholesterol, I'm going to have a problem.

So knowing the consequences of poor eating doesn't always mean "get fat."

The choice, however, remains my own right to choose, no one elses.

The human body naturally craves fat; it's an evolutionary leftover from the days when we didn't get enough of it to feed our large, fatty brains. It is, in fact, one of several metabolism issues that made sense 20,000 years ago that are detrimental today. (It's also speculated that one of the reasons sweet things are so appealing to us is that human milk is sweet, but I can't say for sure, naturally, as I don't think scientists are sure, either.)
