Some URLs don't seem to want to post.

I'm having problems using the following URL in an embedded link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kepler%....27s_third_law

It works fine in my browser (IE), but when I try using it in an embedded link, like this one, it says it's posting, but it never completes the task.

It appears to be related to either the %27, which is used to account for the apostrophe, or the #, which I believe is used to account for a space.

Anyone else having these problems?

Not at all. You say the problem happens when you hit Submit Reply? That it doesn't get submitted? Then, how did you create that article.

(Is it just the regular complaint that Save may take forever for an edit operation? That's discussed elsewhere, and the solution is to get to the Go Advanced page and Save Changes from there. One topic is: Hang-up when saving post changes)

I'll try your URL two ways here:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kepler%....27s_third_law

Edit: Nope, it submitted just fine.

Edit 2: For the edit, I did have to Go Advanced, for Save Changes to accomplish anything, but I've never notice that has anything to do with URLs.

No, regularly-typed urls work fine, as in post 1. Embedded urls work fine, too, provided they don't contain the percent or number sign in them. If they do, the system hangs - they don't post at all.

Since I don't have a problem on other boards, even those using vBulliten, I'm wonder if it's just BAUT.

And, hey, I even tried posting the percent sign or the number sign itself in the previous post and the same thing happened. It wasn't until I substituted the words for the signs that I could get the thing to post!

You can't even do this?

% #

The % sign or the # sign. Hmm?

Just trying to mess around with it. (I'm also using IE, Widows XP, current updates, very little non-stock stuff.)

Your OP has "%27" in it. Does that mean "%" is OK and "#" is the problem?

Edit: Wait. Your OP has this: "It appears to be related to either the %27, which is used to account for the apostrophe, or the #, which I believe is used to account for a space." You used both % and # there.

(pardon me, I've tried quick-posting this reply twice so far with null results, so it's debugging time.)

The # tells the browser to go to an internal anchor in the page. Space is %20, IIRC.

server = en.wikipedia.org/
directory = wiki/
page = Kepler%27s_laws_of_planetary_motion
section in page = #Kepler.27s_third_law

And the %27 is an apostrophe (for the possessive in Kepler's).

Yeah there's nothing wrong with the URL. It's to spec. Is anyone experiencing the mugalien problem: first post (not an edit) fails upon submission when a URL of that form is used like this one.

Is there a reason for the space in "third" in the anchor? Was it a long url and a carriage return got embedded?

I think that's just the way vBulletin works. Those of us who want a long unbroken string of characters for a sig, get it broken up, we know. (So, I put spaces everywhere, in mine.)

Try 60 Hs:

HHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH HHHHHHHHHH

Thank you for the extra space, vBulletin.

(The space doesn't get inserted at the level of the URL. That works fine. I think the space is inserted by whatever displays actual text. Yeah, if I go to edit the Hs, the space isn't there, nor when I quote this material for another article. Internally, this article is maintained with 60 Hs with no space. The space gets inserted just before the text hits your eyeballs.)
