    Silver

    This noble metal:
...In physics the definition of a noble metal is even more strict. It is required that the d-bands of the electronic structure are filled. Taking this into account, only copper, silver and gold are noble metals...

...Now, with more and more bacteria developing resistance to antibiotic drugs, some researchers and health care entrepreneurs have returned to silver for another look. This time around, they are armed with nanotechnology, a fast-developing collection of products and skills that helps researchers deploy silver compounds in ways that maximize the availability of silver ions - the element's most potent form. Scientists also now have a better understanding of the weaknesses of their microbial adversaries...Nanoscale materials often exhibit unusual structures and behaviors compared with bulkier quantities of the same material.

This is why a penny in your shoe stops foot odour. I tried this with a ten yen coin and it worked, but I had to stop because it was ruining the inner soles of my shoes.

Maybe inner soles should come with some fine copper wire sewn into them.

You know, bleach kills bacteria in vitro, too, and it's awful cheap.

I wear sandals a lot, so I'm good. I would think the penny would stain your socks too.

You know, the best laundry hint I ever got was to put a half cup of baking soda in the wash; baking soda is great for getting the stink out of workout clothes, etc. I have yet to try the anti-bacterial sportswear.

...U.S. soldiers and Marines already wear X-Static socks and T-shirts, which provide "olfactory camouflage" as well as a first line of defense against shrapnel wounds, because any of the silver fabric that becomes embedded in the wound "actually starts treating the wound," according to McNally, the company founder...a pair of X-Static socks contains only about one-hundredth of an ounce of silver...

So rejoice in that silver-impregnated socks prevent odors! If nothing else, this should send the sales of these socks soaring, sending the price of silver soaring, making me (as a holder of silver) rich, rich, rich...

One could always go with the old Heinlein standby for clothes; extruded disposables. (I hear they actually have something like that now in Japan. Vending-machine clothes.)

They had a variant of that in Star Trek:TNG, where people got their clothes out of the replicator.

I wonder how durable those vended clothes are...

They're intended for one-day use only, so not very.

IIRC, they're mostly intended for businessmen who come home late/early after a bender and a stripper. Which many do.

The replicated clothes on TNG had no price tag, so they could be of any quality or material. Want a tailored silk suit? Or gold-plated High Gothic plate armor? Presto, it's there.
And you didn't even have to say "I wish".

Yeah, and the best part of about the STTNG clothes: they fit perfectly and had built-in tummy and cleavage-control, particularly if your name was Deanna Troi.

Alternate answer: You work with what you're given. Some things are an easier fix than others.

They did. I hear at one point his girdle burst and killed three red shirts.

Or, as Leonard Nimoy once put it, "Wait a minute. DeForest Kelley's getting so thin he's disappearing, and Bill was eating carrot sticks?" (This was, obviously, some time ago.)

Japan: 100 yen for a tie, 250 yen to get it cleaned.
