    Igniting salt water?

I ran a search and didn't find anything about it, this has to be a hoax, it just sounds too goo to be true - it would be great if it wasn't though.

He said a chemist told him that the immense heat created from the machine breaks down the hydrogen-oxygen bond in the water, igniting the hydrogen.
Meaning that he's not gaining any energy. He puts in enough electrical energy (I guess in the form of radio waves, though that's inefficient) to break the bonds, and then he gets--at absolute most--that much energy back in heat when the hydrogen burns. Better off just using the electricity directly.

Not sure why the water has to be salty....

The same conclusion I arrived at.

First law of thermodynamics - you cannot get something for nothing.

Second law - you cannot break even.

It is a shame that the media were so ignorant of these facts. They should have kept the focus on Mr. Kanzius' admirable efforts to develop better cancer treatment methods.

One of my lecturers back in the sixties was a yorkshireman(only UK members will get this) I can hear him now "You get owt for nowt in physics lad there is always a trade off" It was the first thing I thought upon watching that article, and yes Better conductivity was the only reason I could see for salt water.

Ditto. I suspect he has re-invented either a microwave oven or something similar to an ICP (Inductively coupled plasma). If he really gets 3000F like the article claims, I'm guessing an ICP. I'm not sure he really needs salt water, but the increased conductivity of the water might be a factor.

Is it possible he has found a harmonic frequency that breaks the hydrogen bond and thus getting a higher EROEI?

Edit: Guess not, but he is on the resonance track.
