it certainly has, but I am `assuming' (yes I know whats said about that) that the shows have
    1. some small resemblance to reality
2.A small desire to not make the people appearing appear complete and utter (coughs)- I know that some shows dont have this limitation apparently (most current reality tv shows where reality appears to have most males in loin clothes and females in bikinis for some reason)-

the actual `real life tv' appears to not embellish it too much, or else most of my online contacts that live in the country concerned are telling the same fibs the tv shows are telling...

I have a fairly good driving record, but in the 14 years I've been driving I've been pulled over for speeding, twice for a headlight that was out, and once for driving on an expired license plate.

Of the four times, the expired plate was probably the worst offense, as the plate was six-months past its expiration. And it wasn't my car.

I've never had a gun pulled on me.

Seriously, Boppa, the US has very strict rules on when an officer can and can't draw his or her weapon. One of the qualifications for "can" is when a motorist you pull over shows as having an outstanding warrant for a felony. I'd wager that this was the case.

If you'd rather chose to believe that we're a bunch of gun-toting, trigger-happy cowboys, then so be it. But that's simply not the case.

Bayonne school district lowers passing grade for students

Promoting achievement by lowering the bar?

[S]chool officials have decided to lower the passing grade in all classes from 70 to 65 as part of a three-year pilot program.

The reason: success leads to more success, according to Bayonne school honchos.

Well, you know what they say, "If you can't stand the heat, lower it and get used to half-cooked meals." Wait, that is what they say, right?

Back when I was a grad student, I read a newspaper advert wherein someone wanted a "TEACHER OR TUDOR" for her children.

I figured that if I looked enough like Henry VIII I might get the job, but I passed on it. But, those kids probably did require tudoring in spelling and/or history.

Truck spills 400 gallons of used oil in Adams County
A malfunctioning tanker truck spilled 400 gallons of used motor oil [...]
Because the oil is used, Danne said it doesn't pose a serious environmental hazard
This sounds to me that used motor oil is safer than un-used motor oil.
Doesn't used motor oil have a lot more contaminents in it? At least that's part of my reasoning for having regular oil changes.

This is more of a "hear that again". I heard a radio report discussing career options that don't require a college education, but still allow entry into the middle class.
    The reporter said:

HVAC workers earn more than 25% of university graduates.
I first interpreted that to mean the average HVAC salary is about 25% of average college graduate salary...which didn't sound so hot.

I read that Fiona Apple was arrested. The name was a sort a blast from the past, so I checked out her official website at:

    http://www.fiona-apple.com.

I had a moment outrage; how dare Apple (computers) start sponsoring/buying up recording artists!

And then I read it again...

To be honest, I wouldn't know how to interpret that. Grammatically, I would take it to mean that somehow, college graduates are used as a form of currency to pay HVAC workers, and they are not sufficient so something else has to be used to supplement the salaries, perhaps money. But since slavery has been abolished, that interpretation seems wrong.

Maybe the air force had some extras, and the people rode them out of the state!

But unfortunately, it seems that Fox has corrected the headline, though it persists in other sites that copied the original article.

Yes, they all usually correct things after enough ridicule. The Tribune couldn't do that back in '48 when Dewey defeated Truman.

The Military Channel has a show entitled Infamous Assassinations. But in the half-hourly block in the DVR Guide cable channel, the title always gets truncated in an unfortunate manner.

    My daughter recently picked-up a bag of fat-free, gluten-free, sugar-free jelly beans.
Actually, they are called "sours", probably for legal reasons, but the bag says 40% fewer calories than regular <brand> jelly beans.

They come with the following warning (in all Caps) on the front and back of the package:
Warning: Consumption may cause stomach discomfort and/or laxative effect. Individual tolerance will vary. We suggest starting with 8 beans or less.

By the way, the serving size is 35 pieces.

FWIW, I think all jellybeans are said to be "fat free." Jellybellys are.

These are made by Jelly Belly. The big claim on the package is that they are sugar free. I guess they threw-in gluten and fat free because it is trendy.

I can just imagine the meeting between the marketing and legal departments when the decision was made to put that warning label on the package (on both sides, in all caps, with the word "warning" in boldface, and surrounded by a box). The marketing people must have started crying.

It seems like the headline for this one is taken from the misleading quote.

Man's 'split-second' decision led to vehicle rolling over him
He had to get up underneath it and start it with a screwdriver by touching the solenoid's together and just that split second he didn't put it back in park from drive," says the man's friend.
I'm thinking he didn't put it in park for all the split seconds going from a stop until the point of disaster. Besides, is forgetting to do something a decision?

    This also makes me wonder:
The action is something Libby says Pattison has done a hundred times before but this time he was in a rush.
Now; maybe he couldn't afford to fix the jeep, but wouldn't you think you'd seriously consider fixing it if you've had to do this a hundred times before?

    From your link:

"I was mortified," says family friend James Libby.
Do you think Libby knows what "mortified" means, or not?

    Obviously a Three Stooges fan.

Well, both of them. One for the action, the other for using "mortified."

Typically, people bi--err--"complain" about having to do things like this, but won't fix it because they like the attention they get from complaining about it in the first place.

    Then they get run over.
