Okay, this is kind of a tragic story, where a little boy lost fingers in a moving walkway at an Ikea store. The reason it's in this thread, though, is because of this:

[H]is index and middle fingers were severed.

One rolled down the travelator, the other was never found. He was rushed to hospital where both fingers were amputated.
So they amputated the fingers which had already been severed and one of which they couldn't find?

I'm guessing that he lost a part of each finger at the store and they had to amputate the remaining part. That, or they had to amputate additional fingers because they were also mangled in the accident. Either way, it reads oddly.

EDIT: Because I forgot the link!

    Yes it does.
Although I don't know how you would say it otherwise without describing it further (which might be too much for some people to handle).

Given the cause of the injury it's likely to have been very messy, so making a clean cut removing a substantial part of the fingers was the best solution.
I think I'd also call cutting off e.g. half a finger amputation even if it was in shreds at the time.

But I'd probably call it "amputating the rest of the finger".

I just caught this in the help of a very well known product.

This input replaces any existing content. If the stream is empty, any current content is removed.

I'm not having my best day, but I'm clueless as to what that is. All I can think of is what might happen if you crossed the streams.

Seems like it's describing flashing a memory card or audio recording medium. Or it could be referring to some kind of media streaming software ...(darwin, realplayer, ffmpeg)

No; it's technical programming stuff within a product.
It was the thought of "removing the contents of an empty container" and the interplay between remove in one case and replace in an another even though both situations are simply "It ends up with what you put in it, no matter what was there before".

Here's another example of a useless adjective, and a missing adjective.
GM’s Orion Assembly To Pull Energy From The Sun
will soon hold a solar array with enough capacity to annually power 45 homes in Michigan.
    ...
In total, the energy saved will be equivalent to avoiding 261 metric tons of CO2 from entering the atmosphere.
Either the solar array produces that amount of electricity only once a year, and the CO2 savings is over the lifetime of the cells, or they put "annually" in the wrong place.

Here's a little ditty we've seen before about tires "insulating" a vehicle.
They even got the misconception wrong.

Power lines fall on RTA bus in Bay Village; firefighters say passengers should have stayed on bus
An RTA spokesperson said their safety training teaches drivers to get people off the bus because RTA claims unlike trains, the rubber tires ground the bus.

    From this story:
100-Year-Old Railroad Tunnel Collapsed Below Sinkhole:
“So that’s why we’ve closed the road, we don’t know how quickly it’s going to happen and how quickly it’s going to occur.”
My only question at this point is if they know when it's going to take place, or when it's going to transpire.

From this CNN article about the Curiosity rover:

The rover’s size – it's 9 feet, 10 inches long and 9 feet, 1 inch wide - makes it too heavy to land with airbags like earlier rovers.
Well, I suppose that size and weight are related.

I clearly remember what the television sports announcer said after the Pirates beat the Orioles in the 1979 World Series. (don't remember which announcer)

"The Orioles are a talented young team and their future is definitely ahead of them"

Walmart shoplifter pulls out bag of marijuana
A suspected shoplifter that was told to empty his pockets accidentally pulls out a bag of marijuana.
I can't figure out how the word "accidentally" applies to this situation. He had no way of avoiding it.

My wife worked briefly as the animal warden in our hometown. Her training was severely impacted when the guy who was supposed to be orienting her was found with a bag of marijuana in his jacket pocket. And this was in the police station.

Meanwhile, those living in households earning $50,000 each year or more are more likely to...
So are we talking about the low wage earners. For example, I'm sure that can apply to a household earning $50,000 in 5 years.

That was odd. I clicked on the link, and it told me that it looked like I was from outside the US, and would I like to make international my default edition?

Those living in urban environments are also more likely to embrace an interactive TV experience than those in rural areas.
Did they find that surprising? Do they think mobile access is as good in rural environments as it is in the city?

Like Henry Higgins said, quoting Zoltan Karpathy: "'Her English is too good,' he said, 'which clearely indicates that she is foreign.'"

Though how they could tell that from one click is beyond me.

There's some truth to that. I have a friend who moved to the US from India, got married and had two children. Recently, his family decided to return to India. The two children (approximate ages 8 & 12) were given a test prior to entry into the local school system. They scored quite well...except in English.
