mind expanding universe

Hi everybody, just joined this group. Looks like a lot of fun. I came to this site via the TOE quest site and saw a post that I wanted to respond to but now I can't find it again. It was about the space into which the universe is said to expand. Now, the other week I was wondering about this very topic, and decided to ask Dr Paul Davies, the renowned astrophysicist, author, populariser and Australian, as follows: If space itself is expanding, then how about the stuff that occupies space? Are space, and the stuff that occupies space one and the same thing? Is matter the same thing as space, what about spacetime?(my question and his response can be seen in full on my blog metaphysical mumbo-jumbo.

Space is where the Universe is located. All the stuff that makes up the Universe is located in space. There are no other locations.

As I look in the mirror, it seems over the last decade or so I've definitely been expanding. I blame that deep-fried Dark Matter.

to refine what my good friend FarmerJumperDon pointed out - there are no other locations - in THIS universe. (Given that math has been presented that works back past the big bang, alternate universes is a valid postulation, though we can never prove it empirically)

But, to more accurately answer your question: If space is expanding, what about the stuff IN it.. I've not seen anything to indicate that matter does anything but get farther apart.
