Your link has an extra "http" in it.

Anyway, I did search for the article, and the search results came up with a few "fiery crash" references, but have apparently been changed already.
I can't find it on CNN but it was on MSNBC.

My bad (I hate that expression). Anyway, I went back and fixed the link. It works fine for me now anyway.

I found out from CNN today that the Loche Nesse monster is apparently definately real, as we've (apparently) known for some time. At least, thats how they make it sound in this story.

More recently, there have been more than 4,000 purported Nessie sightings since she was first caught on camera by a surgeon on vacation in the 1930s.
Yes, except for that surgeons footage as been proven a hoax (which the surgeon also admitted to).

The Scottish media is skeptical of Nessie stories but Holmes' footage is of such good quality that even the normally reticent BBC Scotland aired the video on its main news program on Tuesday.
Yes, because that's what determines evidence is scientifically sound; whether or not they'll show it on the local news.

They do have a small blurb about different non-monster theories, but if you read the whole article it comes off, at least in my opinion, as sounding like Nessie's real and it's common knowlege. They barely make it sound like there's any controversy over the subject. Oh well.

Between memory, and quick reading issues, I thought they talked about a sighting that turned out to be a sturgeon. Especially, when they mention sturgeon later on.

So; when do we see the video on the net. After they "analyze" it.

Well; I didn't feel that the wording was that strong. They did use "myth" a few times, and it did sound pretty objective starting with the phrase "a drop of the local whisky".

I think the beginning of the article kinda jaded me by the time they started talking about the other explanations. I don't know, I read through it twice, but only skimmed the second time. It just really seemed to me that they were trying to say that Nessie had been obviously filmed since the surgeon video (which was not a sturgeon, but a wooden prop pursposely used as a hoax). Although sturgeon and surgeon are close enough I may have missed something somewhere.

It's not so much a correction as a complaint about technique. And I don't know why I can't link things anymore. It always works on my browser, but apparently not for anyone else. [<---Edit: oops! that one was just carelessness, as I forgot to remove the http:// that defaults when the insert-link window opens, and ended up with two.]

Lol! Yeah I fixed it tho. I don't know, I think I'm in a bad mood today (even though I don't feel like I am). Or maybe it's just because I'm still distraught over the stupidity of the Cryptozoology show I saw over the weekend (see my thread in the ATM section re: the "scientists" on the show). Perhapse the article isn't as bad as my reaction. Of course, I've got a hair-trigger when it comes to taking shots at the media because of my personal distaste for them. Personal bias gets the best of us all, sometimes.

Isn't it nice how modern software "helps" you out. I tend to do things manually because it usually ends up quicker than trying to outsmart the software.

Anyway; Just to prove it, here's a link to a new Nessie specific thread

    Fire extinguished at NASA Glenn

The fire started in the Icing Research Center on the NASA Glenn campus. The fire was contained to the part of the 40-year-old building that is being remodeled. The fire was quickly brought under control and extinguished.
No big deal...but if you watch the video, they actually mention that the shuttle is flying, and this fire did not affect it's flight.

A more factual story here (at least the video), with good pictures and video.

Ok, the reporter is stupid enough to think that this is news, even in the strange catagory, and even if you can string enough cute quotes together.

But; for a Cleveland station to report Baltimore fluff?

Police Issue 'Emergency Order' For Pants
Amazing; somebody stocks something and they are running out and need to order more in a hurry. That never happens to anyone else, right?

But it's the POLICE! Hahaha...ha.........ha............. oh wait, they're no different than any company that has uniforms. When I was working we ran out of pants and shirts. Not totally out, but some had to wear the old gray uniforms while the others got the new white ones. It happens. You don't see them making a big deal about McDonald's running out of "Shrek 3" cups, but ours did.

    Something missing here...
NEW INFORMATION: BMV says computer problems fixed
Bureau spokesman Tom Hunter says the agency typically gets a rush of customers at the end of the month, and that along with people trying to run errands before the holiday week could have caused the trouble.
So; extra volume is a computer problem?

Okay, this was the actual text-link from CNN.com:
    Lightning + iPods = ZZZZZTTTTTT!

I was sllightly relieve to find that this wasn't the actual headline; just the text used for the link. But still, doesn't Lightning + ANYTHING = "Zzzztttt!"? I thought this was a professional news site?

I guess the fact that he was jogging in the lightning storm is no part of that equation either.

um... actually as bad as this sounds, the answer is quite probably yes. Not so much a computer problem as a software stress problem. A lot of software systems written these days have different data structures and algorithms, to handle "high watermark" workloads. The difficulty, however is in effectively testing such software at the high watermark loads that will be experienced in actual operation.

So... for these systems sometimes the first peak load in actual service ends up being more of a testing/debugging exercise. In this case, the characterization of "sluggish performance" sounds typical of a flexible system that encountered a few bugs when it reached the flex point.

Well, your description sounds more like a tuning problem. I don't consider that to be a "computer" problem, because the software and hardware stays intact.

For this particular issue, I find it very hard to believe that it were a software issue due to the amount of time needed for analysis, coding, debugging, testing, and deployment.

    My point is:
The repair was made very quickly.
It was deemed to be fixed after the load was relieved.
The reporter was satisfied with "computer" problem. (well, duh, the computer is slow, so it must be a computer problem)
We don't know if it was tuning, software, hardware nor do we know if it was an insufficiency or an actual problem.

There are a bunch of articles and reports out there now about a French guy with a small brain. They're mostly copies of each other. Almost all of them do a pretty spectacular job of straining to make it appear as if the situation were more drastic than it is in two ways.

This guy's hydrocephalic, which means a couple of fluid chambers in his brain are swollen and have squished the other brain matter outward around them, compressing it into a layer just inside the braincase's wall and a mass near the middle between the two fluid chambers. It's there, but just compressed. There might also be some decrease in cell count, but how much isn't clear. A couple of articles to refer to the brain as "crushed" to its current size, but for the most part, they all try to make it sound as if it were a simple matter of most of the brain being gone instead. They also refer to that outer layer as a "sheet", which overstates its thinness by an order of magnitude or two, and use descriptors like "virtually absent" even though the laws of surface area and volume dictate that a layer around the outside like that makes it more like half of the full volume, not none of it.

They not only exaggerate how much of the brain is "missing", but also strain to make it sound as if there were no consequences of this situation, saying things like that it "doesn't matter" and is "no problem/obstacle" and that everything about his life has been "normal" and "full". But they try to hide, and in most cases don't even mention at all, the facts that malfunctions or loss of function have threatened his life and would have killed him without serious medical intervention, and he's had a lack of balance and problems moving his limbs, and his IQ is at a high retarded level. Then, even while touting this as proof that a small brain doesn't really make any difference, a couple of them snuck in a hoping-we-don't-catch-it quote near the bottom, that this isn't even a normal hydrocephaly case and most have worse symptoms than him... which means that he's an especially rare high-functioning example, like people with normal brain size and especially high IQ, which would still mean that the condition dragged him down pretty far, rather than making no difference.

But saying "brain damage causes man problems and retards mental capacity" isn't a story. It's called creative journalism...wait, no, they just call it journalism. Annoying, no?

I made it through the wilderness.
    Somehow I made it, ach!
Didn't know how lost I was
    Until I found the Loch.

    I was beat, incomplete.
I'd been had, I was green and blue.
But the Loch made me feel
    Yeah, it made me feel
    Shiny and new.

    Like a sturgeon.
Glimpsed for the very first time.
    Like a sturgeon.
When they claim a crypto find.

Gonna give them just a few blurred shots.
    My fear is fading fast.
Been saving it all for them
'Cause HBs want it to last.

This Loch's so fine and it's all mine.
Make me strong, yeah it makes me bold.
Oh your krill is now all thawed out.
Yeah, your krill is now all thawed out
From what was scarce and cold.

    Roar, roar, roar!

This Loch's so fine and it's all mine.
I'll be here 'till the end of time.
    'Cause it made me feel
    Yeah, it made me feel
I've nothing to do but hide.

    Like a sturgeon, ooh, ooh.
    Like a sturgeon.
    Krill feels so good inside,
When you hide me, and protect me, and you feed me.

Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
    Ooh, laddie.
    Can't you take my picture
    For the very first time?
    Go fish.

Ok; here's a good example of how changing the tone of the story and eliminating some of the facts will drastically change the story itself.

Here's two different local stations' takes on the same story.

    First, I read this:
Cleveland Police: Men deliver marijuana right to officers

Then I expected that somebody will take credit for it... I found I was right.
15 Pounds of Marijuana Seized by Cleveland's First District Vice Unit

Ok; not exactly take credit, but the tone certainly is different.

I'm not quite sure the reporter is expressing the correct order of events in this one.
Police got a call Tuesday afternoon and found a man's body on the third floor of the house.

Police then discovered that the house was on fire.

They were police--we're trained to identify bodies not fires. They probably had to wait for confirmation from the fire department.

This is kind of sad story.

But this quote is certainly ironic:

Unsure of what to do next and unable to communication with anyone because he cannot speak English...
    And later on:

He fell, braking his hip, and was rushed to hospital where he remains.
He's apparently not the only one who cannot speak English.

    I love typos.

UPDATE: Road to remain closed most of the day after truck hits Painesville bride
Kind of changes the story a bit.

    Besides:
PAINESVILLE -- Painesville police and fire are on scene at State Route 44 where a truck has hit the Route 20 railroad overpass.
What railroad? This is one route over another. Worse yet, they have a picture of it, and still call it a railroad.

So much for checking your story or proofreading.

Plane Crashes Into N.C. Restaurant; One Killed

State urban search and rescue workers were expected to respond to the scene later Friday
Apparently the task of a search and rescue worker is not to do a search and rescue...
Either that, or we can explain a death?

I rather find it ammusing (in a bad way) that reporter's tend to tack lines like this:
The Clayton eatery has been open for about three years.
at the end of the story.

Because, if they resturant had been open for any other number of years, it would make a difference in the story.

(also, who's ever heard of a BBQ&Seafood place? Seems like an odd combo to me, although landlocked here in Ohio there's a distintly fewer number of seafood places)
