    Goodbye Stargate SG-1 [SPOILERS]

G'day everyone. I'm sure many of you will have just watched the final episode of Stargate SG-1. I started watching when I was 12, so I've been a fan for nearly half my life. While it was nothing compared to TNG in my opinion, it's sad to see an important chapter of science fiction history come to an end. I thought the last episode was probably one of the best from the last 3 seasons or so.

Personally I thought the way they all walked through the gate at the end was quite cheesy. "Just another mission to save the galaxy..." pllllllllllllllease. I would have liked for them to die from old age on the ship...that would have been a profound ending that would have been talked about for years to come. Instead they killed the whole idea.

Please share your thoughts on this series.

Last Ever Episode of Stargate SG1

Strange episode. Not at all what I was expecting. I guess they decided to go out with a whimper rather than a bang.

I hear some of the characters will be crossing over to Stargate Atlantis.

I haven't read your whole post, since I don't want to be spoiled, but I don't think that the finale airs in the US until April or May. A number of us probably have seen it, but just as many haven't had the chance yet.

    It's finally over?

Well that means it might finally go out of syndication on Sci-fi Channel by the year 2210.

Cause if it isn't cheesy monster horror movies and Stargate, they wouldn't have a programming lineup.

Yes, I thought the ending was a bit of a cop-out. A rather heart wrenching build up was occuring throughout, which required them to die. Instead, by pressing the huge reset button TM, they cheesified a lot of what would have been good. It takes more than a little grey in Teal'c hair to make it work as an item of significance.

I would have also preferred the death of the Asgard as more than just a macguffin to get them into trouble. Like the 50 years thing, this was another dramatic high concept that they did not take to its deserved conclusion.

    AND NOW!!!!

All 214 episodes of Stargate SG-1 are known. Name your favourites!!!

    For me:
    1. 10.11 'The Quest part 2' 97%
    2. 6.06 'Abyss' 96%
    3. 2.16 'The Fifth Race' 95%
    4. 3.20 'Maternal Instinct' 90%

I'm actually astounded, given the utter ludicrousness of its premise, that it managed to stay as good as it did. I was constantly surprised, after viewing that godawful movie, that the show managed to expand the premise into something that could sustain a series, and yet not collapse under its own preposterousness.

there alot of series that last longer the they should, I liked the movie and the series, the series actually has quite a bit of humor in it, like in the first episode they had Carter say to Richard Dean "you would not beleive what we had Macgyver together to get our systems to work" or something similar, I found Friends and Seinfeld really really painful to watch most times.

Must be Moebius I and II for me. Also There but for the Grace of God. And the one where a small town gets taken over by the goualds. I thought that one was funny.

Oh, the older episodes are still being repeated here. I have to be careful programming my (pseudo-)TiVo to avoid it getting filled up with them in addition to the new ones.

    Ehm, it isn't over....

Sure, the series, as run by SCIFI, is over... but there are still the movies..

And the Ori thing isn't over yet, not by a longshot.

MGM has given a green light for the show's creators to produce two direct-to-DVD movies based on SG-1. Executive producer Brad Wright let TV Guide in on the news. The studio is targetting a fall 2007 release for both projects -- just a few months after Stargate SG-1 ends its historic, 10-year run on cable television. It's entirely possible that the movies will also be aired on television -- something SCI FI commonly does with direct-to-DVD movies.

The second film will be written by Wright and will involve time travel.

"They're not big-budget [films] by any definition, but for us it's pretty good," Wright said. "As we've proven over the years, just give us little more money and we can make pretty good television, or DVDs."
