While on the one hand, there are oodles of amazing surface features on Mars, just take a gander at Russell Crater and read its article here. Also, for those of you who don't visit MGS Picture of the Day often, be sure to see today's picture ( it is here after Memorial Day).

Aren't the weird channels in the second pic water gullies? Martian prospects keep on getting better and better.

I believe it was determined that the gullies were actually made from a salt water paste (salt water so thick it was more of an ooze than a flow). However, that may only be a theory.Originally Posted by Glom

I don't know if there's terrain that layered on Earth. The question now isn't "Was there water?" or even "Is there water?" anymore. The question is, "What sort of bait would work the best on Mars?"

Well ... I wouldn't give up on the "Is there water?" question just yet. We still haven't seen a lake or a river (just the remnants of same).

Well, I'm not going to start an arguement, but the evidence for current water on Mars is very, very, very, very, very strong. Go here and look at the articles entitled "Martian Biology in Plain View?" and "Strongest Evidence Yet for Water Flows on Mars".
Some really amazing photos in those articles, almost irrefutable evidence.

That looks like a fun link. NASA has shown evidence for water before. The drainage features overlaid sandstorm features indicating the water had flowed fairly recently.
