Thread: Well, I have changed my mind ...

Well, I have changed my mind ...

I was surfing around and stumbled on a *great*conspiracy message board. The one proof (I thought) that was needed, without even having to invoke science at all has just been trashed. I hope this one hasn't been pointed out here. I did a search, and found nothing.

    Where's my tinfoil hat?

If the USA didn't go the moon and it was a set-up, then surely the competing Russians would know about it?

sure nailed the point here w/o realizing

........ all intelligence communities are interconnected in our current new world order, [and have been for over 2 centuries] They have an unspoken agreement not to rat out each others black ops, propaganda and corruption.

u.s.a. intelligence knows all kinds of dirt on foreign governments, but you don't hear them speaking out either

just becuase you repeat a lie, doesn't make it true

    honor and integrity will prevail

Lots of claims, but no evidence.

And really, why try to avoid the science? That's where all the interesting questions and answers are.

I would imagine it's kind of fun to use conjecture and play 'what if' to try to counter evidence that puts my theories into doubt...

Nah. I'll stick with the science too. It's much more fun.

Hmm... I don't know what to say to that. The new world order agrees to not tell each other's secrets. Wait, scratch that, the current new world order (as opposed to the outdated one?). I'm glad that countries that hated each other so bitterly could still agree to not "rat out" each other. If only we could all work together so well...

Sitting on information in order to protect its source is plausible. But if intelligence services don't rat out each other's secrets because they're all connected, then there is some question whether there are any secrets. At any rate, that statement is clearly the standard rhetoric that expands the conspiracy to cover all possible holes.

Over 200 years means that Napoleon's intelligence service was cooperating with that of all the countries he attacked. The "great game" between the Russian and British Empires in the late 19th centuries was just that, a game. The intelligence services of all the warring parties in WWI and WWII were all on the same side. The CIA and KGB were the best of buddies in the cold war.

    Right......

I guess those tens of thousands of nuclear weapons pointed at each other were just high-yield "joy buzzers" between friends.

When this sort of giant, centuries-long conspiracy theory comes up, it's usually because the believer thinks that the usual suspects have been manipulating everyone: the Elders of Zion, Freemasons, Jesuits, Knights of Malta, Skull and Bones, whatever. Sometimes the Freemasons are a conspiracy of the Jesuits, who are controlled by the Jews. A few decades ago, an Austrian housepainter did quite well for himself (temporarily) with this sort of thinking.

This is reasonable fodder for the old Conspiracy Theories forum, but the space aspect of it is such a minuscule part of the conspiracy that it is not worthy of the new, improved, space- and astronomy-based Conspiracy Theories forum (New Change for Conspiracy Theory section: only space and astronomy). May I suggest you take it somewhere where it fits?

Ahh. Sorry. Yes I do know of the new rules ... being a moon hoax thing, I thought it may have been just fine. So have a mod delete it. At least a few people got a chuckle (hopefully). I have never personally heard this argument.

... If you were to go along with the person I quoted in the parent post, no moon hoax topics would be allowed at all - since it all happened on Earth anyway.

But the question started out topical: why didn't the Soviets reveal any knowledge they might have had of a fake moon landing? We've all been at this long enough to expect the novus ordo and Grand Unified Conspiracy arguments as popular rejoinders. That won't change. And while it makes all kinds of sense to forestall debating other specific conspiracy theories, we have also acknowledged a general superclass of ideas and methods that we know really drive all the conspiracy theories. Therefore it would be highly advisable to keep a debate on Soviet surveillance from spilling over into all the other specific theories that are now non grata. But often it is neither necessary nor useful to withhold debating the general ideas and beliefs as they relate to some properly categorized claim.

And before we dismiss the original poster too harshly, keep in mind that the CIA did know about the failure of the Soviet N-1 and other rockets pretty much as they happened. While CIA shared that knowledge with NASA, they did not release it to the general public. While I don't agree this constitutes a collusion between the Soviets and the CIA to keep the failures secret, it does validate the premise that the KGB would not necessarily publish any discovery of Apollo hanky-panky for the same reason CIA sat on its hands about the N-1.

Forty years hence, however, the story changes. It's now common knowledge that CIA knew then of the N-1 flight test failures. Similarly we would expect it to be common knowledge now that KGB knew then of any Apollo fakery.

The Soviets put men on the moon first, but they blew a space modulator and had to hitch a ride back with our robotic sample return/ mirror placement ship. We all agreed not to mention it ever again.

Hopefully it wasn't an eludium-36 explosive space modulator. That would make some people so angry!
