And I thought the soap opera mess on BSG was getting too much. Here's the real thing.

This is all the space program needs right about now.
It seems no circle is immune to the ravages of human emotion![]()

this oughta get a few people interested in our space program..
I don't know. Maybe it's just the thing the space program needs. Real people, with real messed-up heads.
"Open the pod bay doors, Dear."
From the CNN report:
"...she told police that her relationship with Oefelein was "more than a working
relationship but less than a romantic relationship."
Is that like she makes like she's gona kiss you but at the last second, she shakes your hand?
Anyway - this from CNN, not The Onion!

Gives whole new meanings to the terms "rendezvous", "orbital insertion", and "docking".
Obviously a major malfunction.

Great, as if the space program wasn't expensive enough, now they gotta go hire Dr. Phil!
This bit worried me the most!
Urrrggghhh Yuk!They also found diapers, which Nowak said she used so she wouldn't have to stop on the 1,000-mile drive
this only proves that atronauts are human too
it would be interesting to see how NASA deals with this
monitor NASAWATCH
At last, it´s been verified that NASA is not comprised of celestial beings(*)...
(*) It occurs to me that Olympic gods also lived at sixes and sevens when it came to love, so...
How this is reported on the BBC news site
Houston we have a problem
This is one example where I wish life didn't imitate art.
Wasn't there an episode of ST:TNG similar to this?
I guess it could have been worse...it could have happened on a trip to Mars.
I agree
You pull into a rest stop, or a gas station when you fill up, run to the rest room and you are on your way. The bathroom stop should only add 5 minutes each time if you are quick.
I feel sorry for her kids. If they are in elementary school through high school, that they will get tormented about their mother's action and arrest.

If the kids even make the association. Think back, how many of your friends' parents would you have known back then if you had seen them on the news? If there's torment to be had from schoolmates, it will be because the school's handwringing staff goes and makes a huge deal about it.
CNN was naughty depicting the astronaut that way. She looks like she´s in need of a straight jacket. Not exactly the best of public relations for NASA...
To be honest, I might have sounded somewhat cynical concerning how the school might handle this, but the reality is, eh, from what I remember of how the admins handled such matters back when I was in school, nothing much should be made of it.
On the other hand, we do live in a substantially different (not in a good way) world where the public's nose is entirely too lodged where its neither wanted or invited.
Yep... the school used to handle these things on an individual, quiet basis.
Somehow we went from "do you have a problem?" to "you do have a problem"
My biggest beef right now is MSNBC. They already have the story catagorized as "Science and technology". Ok; the players involved are also involved in science, but what happened had nothing to do with science or technology.![]()
Speaking seriously, what about her career? Looks like she´s finished, no?
Yeah, she's never flying again. Even if by some miracle she could pass the psych qualifications after this incident, the fact that she's assaulted another member of the astronaut corps pretty much puts her career at a dead end.
I'll be amazed if she doesn't end up suicidal.
That surprised me. With the number of active astronauts I'm also surprised that one hasn't been arrested for a felony (DUI comes to mind) before now.
Lets just hope that those with an agenda against Women astronauts realize that this is an isolated case. On other boards I've already seen posts consisting of, "them women with their hormones shouldn't be flying in space."
Which I consider to be silly.
