'Classical Babe' Comes To Santa Rosa

    November 3, 2006
...Violin Concerto No. 1 by Max Bruch (1838-1920)...this nicely burnished chestnut...starts with an ominous timpani roll...the violin introduces its bag of tricks, from double-stops to trills, along with soaring melodies...Sparks fly in the finale, as the violin scales the work’s virtuosic heights with gypsy-like flair. Everyone from Jascha Heifetz and Nathan Milstein to Isaac Stern and Joshua Bell has recorded this popular piece...
Nicola Benedetti [19]...picked up her first violin at age 4...will play "The Bruch" on a Stradivarius..."These instruments have a certain class to them...they will only let you play to a certain standard..."... Press Democrat

    She's nice.

Then there's a lot to be said for Hilary Hahn playing Brahms and Stravinsky.

Even better with Schoenberg and Sibelius.

And let's not forget Anne-Sophie Mutter.

I agree on the Stravinsky and certainly the Sibelius...but, ahhh Brahms...for myself, I must say that so far no one beats Nigel Kennedy on the Brahms.

When an artist achieves what he does on that incredible opening of the third movement, it's hard to top.
