    Whats this all about ????????????

    http://kaput.com/May403.shtml

(edited to change idiot address posted prior ops: )

well thats a long www address isn't it! Have posted it because I would like to know what you all think, so I hope it works. Let me know if it doen't

It's a bit of a 'bloody hell look at that!' gut reaction sort of thing and a bit of a tenuous link to astronomy at that, but knowing how utterly clever you all are, knew some one would have something sensible to say about it, and after all earth is a planet to.

Just incase that great long address is bad (?) a brief summery. Its sundays seismic data from usgs. gov with 'stuff' going of all over the place. now if you look at their data for 1998 (?) which they term 'normal noice' or some such. what you see on sundays' update isn't or am I off with the fairies again???

let me know what you all think would ya.

When I click above I get:

It's hard to comment on that.

There were two Earthquakes the other day. The both caused reading readings around the world. The problem is, people who read them with no prior knowledge of EQs will think 'ARGH!!!'.

    Here's an example:

Large Earthquake in Indonesia (May 21, 1998) registering 6.0 magnitude, check out the responses around the world:
    http://aslwww.cr.usgs.gov/Seismic_Da...shot/heli2.htm

The data above shows that the Indonesia Earthquake showed dramatic readings all around the world. This is nothing new so no worries!

PS: the quake the other day was this one:

Magnitude 6.7 KERMADEC ISLANDS, NEW ZEALAND.

It is a much more powerful quake therefore stronger world-wide readings than the one in the example

ARGH!!! then ARGH??? were definatly my feelings, thankyou, you are now my hero

Do the waves travel through the earth like that because of the molten rock then? sort of shock waves through water type thing?

Well, to tell you the truth, I'm not entirely sure. I've always assumed exactly what you just said but maybe someone else could clear this up for certain!

The delays to different receiving stations around the world is one of the ways they know what the core is made of. The shockwaves travel at different speeds through different parts of the core and if I remember correctly, there are certain wave that will go through certain parts and others that don't

    Hello,

Well, the data is kind of weird. If you follow the link at the bottom, and go back to the USGS Seismic data main page, you can see the current stuff at

    http://aslwww.cr.usgs.gov/Seismic_Data/heli2.shtml

The picture that the original link posts to is a site dedicated to disasters of all kinds; http://kaput.com/kaput.html A little searching finds it links right back to Zetatalk, as well as other "impending" disasters.

Although the picture is stored on kaput's site (you can see the graphs stored at http://kaput.com/heli2_files/ ) I can't spot where on the kaput links to that USGS picture; and I don't remember if there was a quake somewhere on May 5th or not. Without a reliable way of interpreting the information, we can't see whether it is unusual. Given kaput's propensity of ultra-diaster watching; I would see it as picking facts to suit a theory (Disasterism) rather than bending a theory to suit facts. Since Hawaii was not wiped out by dozens of tsunamis on the fifth, I think we are okay.

So -- I can't rule the data out entirely; as I have nothing to tack it onto. But I think more information is necessary before we become nervous, to show whether those are out of the ordinary.

From both pages, it looks like 'Waverly, Tenneseee' has been in a constant earthquake for *weeks* now; so I would tend to suspect some of the sesimo data is a little off.

    Hope that helps,

    Jonathan

I posted this on this same thread in 'against the mainstream' before reading the posts here.

I look at the USGS stuff all the time. What this looks like, though I didn't go to any of the specific sites to check the details, is these are all recordings of the same event, The latest 6.? in Turkey. It would be normal for the monitors to pick up world data like that.

The graphs from Pitcairn and Wake Is. represent artifact. It comes from local interference or someone actually moving the seismograph as in the Wake Is. recording.

You can e-mail questions to some of the experts on the various EQ sites and they will send answers pretty quickly.

If you are interested it is very easy to get a list of sites from any of the official addresses. I have spent time checking various volcano and EQ sites. There are some fascinating geological websites out there, including planetary sciences. A lot of universities have science research sites for example.

Thats interesting. I guess that some waves may not travel through because the liquid(?) is to viscous in some places, so is the core then, less like a uniform liquid and more like a vegatable soup - you know with 'bits' in.
that might explain the blocking effect?

Its a bit weird that a .gov site links to zeta talk by the way
question is whos' linked to whom then?

I surmise that the zeta talk lot and the other disaster sites are linked to it rather than the other way around.

Here's a page with some information about earthquakes, from Geoscience Australia (one of my brothers works there): http://www.ga.gov.au/urban/factsheets/20010919_15.jsp

As near as I can remember, some waves can't pass through the liquid portions of the Earth's interior.

OK. I stopped glancing at these pages and took a closer look. The link says the date for the tracings are May 4, 03. Here is the quake that is being recorded. The graphs are recording the same quake, not different ones.

    http://neic.usgs.gov/neis/bulletin/neic_tjae.html

The link still opens to the May 4th page. If you click on any of the graphs now, you get the current graph in which the activity has subsided. The artifact is still there for Pitcairn and Wake Islands, (I named them incorrectly in my above post and have since edited it).

I can try! Unfortunately, his speciality is looking for oil, which (I think) involves looking no further than a few kilometres below the surface. The sort of stuff you're talking about is thousands of kilometres down.
