    Double-moon + GRS/Red Jr transit - 21/08

    Hi all

This image was from earlier in the evening (6:03pm) before the shadow transits had begun.

Io had not long crossed in front of the disc, and Europa is not far from leaving the front of the disc.

Seeing was fairly ordinary, and fluctuating wildly - mostly due to boundary layer and tube currents as the temperature was dropping after sunset. I took 9 avi's, but this was the best of them, and in all cases I couldn't get 3 good channels.. I always had one acceptable channel, but then the seeing deteriorated while capturing the others.

Stacked 180/1300 frames in each channel (over 3 alignment points), usual LR deconvolution and recombine, followed by curves and colour balance adjustment in photoshop.

I captured a few avi's as Europa's shadow begun to transit, but by then the seeing was even worse. I might finish processing them and post them later. I didn't get to capture the double-shadow, as Jupiter had dropped below 50° in the west, where I can't see it anyone thanks to house + trees.

    Thanks for looking.

    Nice shot.
Everything I need to know I learned through Googling.

Yes, Nebulium.. sorry I haven't replied yet. Will do soon.

Thanks for the comments, everyone. Jupiter season is just about over for me, this year. Hopefully i'll get one more evening of decent seeing before it's gone for good. I only have a window of 1hr to image Jupiter now.

    Lucky!
This Jupiter season totally sucked here in Seattle this time around. Mostly since it was just too low in the sky. When the weather got better, it was just completely unstable, now it's too low and below the roof of my observatory.
    Oh well....next year!

Very very good shot for this period of Jupiter!!!
When you take R-G-B shots you use and UV/IR cut filter, Iceman?

    Thanks George.

I use the Astronomik Type II RGB filterset, which have IR blocking built in.
    I don't use a separate IR/UV blocking filter.

Thenk you very much Icaman, I has buy this filters and if the weather is good today I will test it.Why you dont take Light frames for LRGB technique.

For Jupiter, it's mainly because there's not enough time to capture before rotation.

I capture for around 2minutes, sometimes 2:20, for RGB, between 35-45 seconds for each channel (with 5 seconds changing filters).

If I was to capture L as well, I'd have to reduce the time on the RGB, or capture for longer. If I reduce time for RGB, I won't get as many frames. If I capture for longer then i'll get rotation.

For Saturn I'll definitely be trying for LRGB.
