Order of Kilopi
I've been have trouble all day with the board hanging. Moving from post to post and different forums and also posting. This has been with two different operating systems and browsers. Several times today I got this message:

Every day at 4 AM my time (Mountain Daylight currently), the boards slow to the point that it takes well over a minute to load a page. This lasts from a little before 4 to about 10 minutes after. Is this a server issue, or am I just catching it during a back up or something?

I assumed that also, but like I said, just letting them know.

The one at 4am is the backup. The other problem is that the forum and the wildly popular website Bad Astronomy are located on the same server. Phil can sometimes get mentioned in the media, etc, and then the server gets pounded.

He just got plugged by Pharyngula, one of the top science blogs, which can't help. (Well, it's good overall, of course, just slows things down.)
Everything I need to know I learned through Googling.

So possibly the solution isn't a new server for everything, but instead split it to two servers?

But how to decide which people go on which server? It's that sports conundrum all over again
Has been very slow & even unavailable several times in the last few hours.

Based on info given, that part is simple, have bautforum on one, and the ba site on the other.

Yeah. It was Pharyngula that bogged it down today. We're still suffering under the traffic. We're getting a quote on a much more powerful server and more RAM.
And we'll probably move BA over to our other server (where UT is). That will keep just BAUT on its own server, with room for growth.

If you think it's bad for you, it takes me forever to get into the admin area of my blog. Very frustrating. We'll figure this out and settle on a solution pretty soon.
