    I'm finally going...

For those who might remember, I talked about going to Alaska for a workshop on weather. Well...I'm leaving tomorrow!!! (Saturday)

It's a week long and I'm going to have a fantastic time.

I'll be the only Canuck in a sea of Yanks! (and I think maybe a Frenchman)

Anyhow, it's a science workshop on luminous clouds and global warming, paid for by Hampton University. Thanks, American taxpayers! HA!

I'll let everyone know how it went. I'll be back next Sunday, being very, very tired I'm sure

For anyone interested, here's a link to the website...my Bio is in there somewhere...

Apparantly astronaut Donald Pettit is speaking. I'm assuming he's American

18 degrees Celsius is still shorts weather for me personally, but some of the participants are from southern states. I'll bet they wear sweaters! I much prefer cool weather, although about 22 degrees is my comfort zone

Yep, he's from Oregon. I went to the same high school and college that he did (though a generation later). I've never met him, unfortunately, but my parents and grandparent know him from when he was a kid.

Alaska is cool this time of year, but the mosquitos are out in force, and have been known to lift small horses, en masse, to their lairs when heartier meals were desired.

Good luck, Godspeed, and either learn to swat on the fly, or swat the fly, or apply prodigious amounts of DNA-altering DEET!

Well.I'm here. It was a long travel..14 hours inclduding waits, etc....there was a drunk guy on the plane. I think he was escorted out of the airport when we landed. I thought we were going to be on that show "Airline".....

I met Donald Pettit tonight. He is aware of Phil's book but hasnt' bought it yet..I'll work on him later

It's time I continued to milk the fact that Canadians built the Canadarm..20 years ago!!! How long can a country continue to milk something like that?!

I'll remind Mr Pettit of that tomorrow....in case he's forgotten...HA!

So far the mosquitos aren;t as bad as I thought. Certainly no less than Ontario...but I've only been here a day....

    Well...wireless is great..I miss my wife...goodnight all!

It can be milked until it's replaced.

I met Mr. Pettit at the DaVinci Days in Corvallis Oregon. He rigged up a clever tracking system to get pictures from the ISS and did a talk on that and other topics. I was doing a Amateur Telescope table and he came over to talk with us, but we were wrapping it up for the day. He is a very bright man.

Good luck up there in Alaska. I was there in the mid 80's. I'd like to go back some day.

Pete, are you going to do any sightseeing or just the conference? Alaska is beautiful and you should make the most of it, if you can.

We're spending an entire day at Kenail national Fjords on thursday. It's going to be a 14 hour day and I'm hoping to get lots of photos.

I just got a picture of a moose on campus with two of her calfs. Huge animals!
