Milky Way Northern Hemisphere View

I was inspired by Shalom to try this.......

This is a single shot Canon 300D mounted on Takahashi Sky Patrol camera mount,280 seconds, ISO 800.

It is unprocessed but I would like to try stacking some.

Shalom, how do you stack these very large images? I could only get a small box (512) stacked in Registax when I tried to stack some of these.

I like the mount you have too, are you happy with it?

Firstly I would recommend shooting in RAW (if you haven't already).
Secondly to stack these large files I would recommend Registar.

Thanks for the advice.
The camera mount belonged to the Star Hill Inn. I liked it very much. The great thing about the Star Hill Inn was that the only thing I needed to bring was my camera and telescope adapter. The use of their telescope was included in the price of the room/cabin. I guess this was not the ideal time of year because we had the place to ourselves. The skies were still much better than I have at home. As good as or almost as good as what I saw on Mauna Kea at the visitors center at 10,000 feet.

If you have Photoshop, under the Image menu there's a "Calculate ..." option, and using it, you can add two images together. Or, you can download IRAF and ImageMagik, use the latter to convert your images to FITS format, and then use IRAF to add/average the images.

Absolutely beautiful, I've never seen the milky way first hand, so all I have is pics like this.
