I'll do both, I'll guess the objective is about 7 inches, assuming a few things.

The formula is (57.3/fl) x 22.7 = field of view. I guessed about 1 degree for the field at its widest. The 22.7 is the sensor width, in mm, on the Canon 300D. [I am going on memory for all the above, so I could be wrong.]

    A beautiful image.

I agree, an absolute treat. The cluster resolves right down into the centre.
I haven't done the calculations our heliochromologist did, but yes, I had figured something like 6" or 8".

AHA... :-) I am normally using Firefox and all I could see was a link.. which resulted in a thumb upon clicking and that was it.
But with Explorer... yes... it is a real treat :-) beautiful!!

The resolution is great all over the field of view. However I think the optical system needs additional bit of adjustment, the stars (brighter ones) tend to be slightly elongated in up-down direction (coma?).

But, what am I talking about? If this was my homemade Schmidt..... I would be at the top of the world :-)

Any photos of the homemade Schmidt? I never heard of anyone building something like that. Do you have a photo of it you can post?

I think it's a good image. I think any image of M13 that shows the "propeller" (Y shape slightly dimmer than surrounding star glow) is a good image! Many images do not show that.

    I lke the image.

I would like to know more about the scope.

How did you guide this image? Is it on an equitorial mount?

    Gorgeous.
Everything I need to know I learned through Googling.

    Hi to all

Many thks for your kind comments.

My friend has built a really big scope (not his first Schmidt, but its first so big).
The present results are jeopardized by local seeing conditions near the scope (always ) and too much frequently outside. And the thin mirror cell needs a little more trimming.

So, as results yet are not and too far from expected ones , my friend don't like that I speak very much about his BigSchmidt.

As of today I just can say that it's using a huge EQ fixed fork mount built on a concrete floor.
