Ali G and Buzz Aldrin

Hbo has recently imported a British comedy program called Da Ali G Show. The show's creator, Sasha Cohen, plays several chracters including the white Tommy Hilfiger wearing, thick slang slinging Ali G, who is a bit of an idiot. Some how he manages to interview everyone from Boutrose Boutrose Gali to the head of the CIA, without breaking character. The most recent show has him interviewing Buzz Aldrin (accidentally calling him Buzz Lightyear) and asking him once and for all to put to rest all the skeptics and conspiracy theorists who think the moon is fake. Funny stuff.

I saw an advert for Ali G in Da USA!! on Channel Four and he was interviewing Buzz Aldrin.

What was it like not being the first man on the moon? Was you ever jealous of Louis Armstrong?

Getting into sensitive territory there. Fortunately, Ali G breaks the potential awkwardness by calling Neil Armstrong Louis Armstrong.

To be pedantic, Sasha Baron Cohen is a jewish guy, pretending to be an Asian guy who dresses and acts like a gangsta rapper. A one joke show, but better than his other stuff.

I agree, strangely, by interviewing Buzz and taking the mickey out everything including the "hoax" i think he was positive.

The show gets a lot of stick from people, who skim the faux-controversial gangsta-rap surface but it tends to be really, really good, and amazingly clever at times. The man's a genius.

He is a genius. He's one of the few people ever to make what is essentially a conservative slanted satire, and the only person to be critical of Britain's current culture of glorifying stupidity without sounding over serious.

And the best thing is the stupid people he is mocking can't see that they're being mocked, so they think it's wonderful too.
