Earth spinning, is there any big change?

this question is related with the spinning of earth, is there any kind of information about earth's spinning faster than the previous?

is speed of earth substantially changing of ?

is there any remarkable differences in the world timings when the earth moving fastly, or there is a steady spinning of earth, no changes appearing in the clocks, everything is as it was. if a bigger asteroid suppose struck with the earth, then what sort of symptoms may occour in respect of its spinning.

The earth's rotation rate is gradually slowing down, due to tidal effects with the Moon and to a lesser degree, the sun. I'm not sure how long it takes to slow a day down by 1 second -- I expect it to be 100s of thousands of years, but I may well be off.

It's also known that strong earthquakes can shift mass around and affect the rotation rate. Again, the effect is very slow -- something like a few nanoseconds. If you want the exact numbers, there was some info here from early 2005, just after the tsunami.

For an asteroid to affect the earth's rotation due to impact, it would have to have appreciable size. (It's momentum, mv, would be added/subtracted from earth's angular momentum, depending on the direction and also the angle of impact) I suspect that for an asteroid to be big enough to noticably affect rotation rate (e.g., >>1 sec/rotation) it would have to be so big that we'd be mostly (entirely?) wiped out as a civilization.

The leap seconds that we occasionally add are due to the fact that the earth is rotating slower than it was in the past. The time measured by rotation (UT1) differs from atomic time (TAI) so we add (or subtract) leap seconds to make things agree in our time standard of coordinated universal time (UTC).

The current slowing rate is about 1.4 ms/day/century

On January 2005 a local newspaper something exciting about tsunami. It affacted earth's rotation. But the effect was very insignificant.

Anything in the world is not perfect so earth's rotation too is not perfect. It's unsteady.

But we can't feel any remarkable diffeerence in world timings, because that change in spinning rate is too small.

And when we talk about clocks on earth they don't depend on earth's rotation. So even after a remarkable difference in world's timing the clock will show the time as it has been showing from years.

When any asteroid colloids with earth, the rate of earth's rotation will depend on the angle of strike of asteroid. When the angle of strike is opposite of the rotation of earth the rate will decrease and vise-versa.
