In this film at the very end, can be seen an astronaut being lifted by what could only be a string. Please if you would be so kind to explain your counter theories? (NOT CT) Is this film for real or is it fake?

If you watch, you can see that Young is not using Duke to push off from horizontally, Duke is helping him to lift up vertically. Therefore the bulk of the force is travelling vertically through Duke and doesn't cause any appreciable sideways motion, either in Duke, or in Young's feet. All Young needs is enough grip on one foot to maintain a pivot point until he can get upright, and he seems to have that with his right foot. Again, also, in 1/6th g., it would be easier to lift your body weight using just your upper arm strength, so there's less need to brace or tense than you would need in Earth gravity, and a correspondingly less obvious reaction as well.

Rather than an explanation, will you accept some advice?

Apollo lunar surface footage was captured in continuous sections of often over an hour in length. It was not a series of discontinuous clips of a few seconds' duration. Conspiracy theorists such as the authors of the site you reference post short clips divorced from context. That allows them to paste their interpretations on events. If you can, try to watch the better quality, full-length video. There may be one or two instances contained therein that look like astronauts supported on wire rigs, but there will be other instances that absolutely cannot be achieved using wire rigs (behaviour of dust and other objects is a good example).

Yes I take your advice welcomely. It does appear as suggested, above, on closer inspection, but it is easy to jump to a CT on that one.

If you had a link to a longer section of footage that would be fab, but I agree with the explanation given, so not necessary.

Get thee to the Apollo Lunar Surface Journal and look for yourself. Or spend a few bucks and buy the Spacecraft films DVD sets that have the original, uncut, video from several of the missions, A16 included.

This is one of those cases where the "evidence" for a conspiracy lies solely in how the film is presented. "Cosmic" Dave omits the soundtrack so that you cannot hear the astronauts discussing how they're going to position arms and legs to right the downed crewman. And he provides a short, postage stamp sized rendition that obscures and omits the visual context or detail.

In other words, once you eliminate all evidence of other factors, then the conclusion "it can only have been a string" becomes somewhat more credible. However, at heart it's still an indirect argument that has no proof power. But so firmly do many viewers believe that this is incontrovertible evidence of a "wire" or a "string" that at least one has gone into near hysterics over it.

There is an important difference between a theorized cause and an evident cause for some effect. When all you have is some visible effect (e.g., the unexpected motion of an astronaut), pretending to have dismissed or disregarded some number of potential causes does not entitle you to hold your hypothesis as proven. An evident cause would require the hypothesis to have some additional proof not tied to the observation the hypothesis attempts to explain. (Otherwise your proof would be circular.) So in this case you need to show something else, such as unexplained tension at some point on the suit where the wire is attached, or photographic enhancement showing the wire itself.

The argument, "What else could it be?" begs the question -- even more egregiously since the presenter has apparently intentionally omitted parts of the evidence that would dispute his contention.
