Umm...no offense, but the expression your imagination like a rubber band has stretched so far that it snapped comes to mind.

I commend your creativity, though. [img]/phpBB/images/smiles/icon_confused.gif[/img]

It's not in the same location. It's further down.

It's not the same size. It's slightly smaller.

It's not the same shape. It lacks the curvy bit.

I'm actually more interested in what that thing is floating in front of the cosmonaut. It looks like a triangle painted by Salvador Dali. What is that thing?

They both are schnazzy suits. Other than that, I don't see much resemblance. But hey...vivid imagination rocks. [img]/phpBB/images/smiles/icon_wink.gif[/img]

I was kind of wondering that myself. New fangled astrolab, perhaps?

Maybe it is part of a experiment to see how materials can be contorted in Zero Gee? Or it could just be a art project.

That thing looks an awful lot like an impossible cube - the things that when rotated just the right way seem to be an impossible construction?
(Some guy made a few out of lumber in his backyard, but I can't find the link. [img]/phpBB/images/smiles/icon_frown.gif[/img]) Beats me why they'd have something like that up there. They had a guitar on Mir though, so who knows?

Oh, and I think the suit resembles C3PO like Escher resembles reality. [img]/phpBB/images/smiles/icon_wink.gif[/img]

The guy with the lumber in the back yard...I think you're referring to Jerry Andrus.
    http://www.sandlotscience.com/EyeonIllusions/Andrus.htm
He was down in Florida at TAM -- check BA's pix for a shot of Jerry's nuts...(ahem)...
    http://www.badastronomy.com/fun/randi_2003.html
along with other impromptu pix...The BA and The StarGeezer...BA ripping the shreds out of PX...

That thing in the picture with the cosmonaut? C'mon...you've never seen a veeblefetzer before?

...(someday, someone tell me how to post pictures here so folk don't develop carpal tunnel clicking on all the links...)

Yeah, that's the guy! Wow. What a coincidence. I've always wanted to meet James Randi myself also.
And Leonard Nimoy... and Stanislaw Lem... and... and lots of other people too.

Posting images: It should just be plain HTML. (Though if this message was edited, it probably wasn't)

Artwork. Called Cosmic Dancer. It's real because it has it's own website.

I'm impressed that you found a webiste that explained the 'cosmic dancer' mystery. How in the world did you find it? Google searched "weird space-thingy?"

Anyway thanks for the link, I was starting to really wonder what it was but it never occurred to me that Russia would have an 'art in space' program. Cool!

Well, I googled for "artwork space mir" and it was #1 on the hitlist [img]/phpBB/images/smiles/icon_wink.gif[/img]

I've seen it somewhere before when I did some investigation about some artwork that was said have been taken to the Moon by Apollo 12, called "Moon Museum" ("a small ceramic tile with drawings by six artists such as Robert Rauschenberg and Andy Warhol").
There are some references for it on the web, but when Alan Bean was asked about it, he said he never heard about that weird story before.
One of the less know urban legends.

If you want to add images, just have a read of the FAQ. There's a special BBcode command specifically for images. You can read all about it and more besides. [img]/phpBB/images/smiles/icon_smile.gif[/img]

(PS: If you post images, make sure they're not too large. Giant-sized images tend to push everything else off the side of the page.)
