I would, but I've never had any such experience.
Saw my mother 2 weeks ago. Turned around and there she was, at work non the less. Blinked and she was gone, like she'd never been there, which of course she hadn't. I think I had been working at this place for 2 months when she died of cancer 4 years ago. Looked to be in her 50's or early 60's. Some memory I have of her no doubt.
When I was 7, I cut my thumb (still have the scar). That evening, shortly after going to bed and moaning from the pain (as a seven-year old is wont to do), I felt the family dog (or so I thought) jump onto the foot of the bed. As I called her name and looked down, I was surprised to see the former owner of our house sitting there and smiling at me. She slowly disappeared and then I remembered that she had died a few months before.
Looking back, I'm sure that it was some sort of dream (these things always seem to occur "shortly after falling asleep").
But my older sister recounted a similar story to me a few years back. Same house, same lady, same time frame...............

I beleive in life after death, but as far as spirits and stuff "haunting" a particular house or whatever... I don't really understand why anyone would want to do that. If I was dead I'd go visit other places that I never got to see when I was alive, like New Zealand or Europe.
^
Assuming that they were to exist, it seems that they must be tied to particular people or places somehow. Otherwise, most of them ought to hang around for a short while, tour Earth, maybe check out the Moon, then head off for parts unknown, leaving only the most clingy and boring spirits to their old haunts while pushing the average ghost density of the universe down to nearly zero.

But nothing we know can travel faster than light!then head off for parts unknown, leaving only the most clingy and boring spirits to their old haunts while pushing the average ghost density of the universe down to nearly zero.assuming intelligent humans appeared hundreds of thousand years ago, their ghosts would already exited the milky way by now.
What a view of the milky way they would have!![]()
Here's a creepy experience I had as a kid. My dad built this super nice house, surrounded by woods for the family in the early 80's. We lived there and weird things would happen, like all the windows and doors would be open and nothing stolen etc. Anyways, I dunno why, but at night I would always hear someone calling my name and saying it was ok to come outside into the woods surrounding the house. The womans voice was creepy and I also heard laughing and weird noises and it was coming from inside my room. (the window was closed, it wasn't some teenagers). I would always get scared and hide under the covers or tell my mom etc. Of course they didnt believe me. Then one night my older sister came into the room and said theres a lady in there looking for me. I told her it wasnt real and to go back to bed.
Another night I woke up and I saw a Native Indian looking person come at me in a violent way. I screamed and it disappeared. We moved shortly after and the present owners say its a "haunted house" or whatever. This place is in Northern Vancouver Island, which was once Native ground. I still wonder what would of happened if I went outside. Very scary experience. As a astrophysics student, I question the exsistence of things like this. Nevertheless, it was real and scary to me. I moved away, and I have recently visited this house 18 years later. It still gives me the creeps looking at it.
space-cadet...you might want to consider posting here under a different user name.
The name space cadet is already being used by another member, and you also using it might lead to confusion.
Well a more funny look at that:
I can swear that I have gnomes living in my apartment. Things just disappear and never(!) reappear. Now the apartment is rather small (40 squaremeters), so it is not like it would be easy to loose something in it, yet it happens all the time, even larger things, like DVDs (with the box). I swear I had that DVD in my shelf, next time I wanted to watch it, it was gone.
Of course the usual vanishing socks (LOL) but also sunglasses (like my gfs sunglasses disappeared last week and never reappeared again, she did not leave the apartment that day, so where did they go?).
I know there is some logical explanation for all that, but gee, it is really good at driving me nuts sometimes).

I just realized this now, as I looked above my post. I actually had this name from the old bad astronomy forum for years. When It changed to baut, I forgot my password yada yada and just re-entered myself under the similar name.
So I dunno who had it first. Also, I don't think its that big of a deal, as I rarely post. But if I come up with a better name then I will change it. Otherwise, those who tend to get "confused" about such things, will have to dustinguish us by the senior and junior member untill I can come up with something better.
Well, I don't have any personal experiances. But an observation. When I was a security policeman in the Air Force, I heard a lot of ghost stories. It seemed as if each story started off with, "Just before I got here, such and such happened."
I reused old calenders during the !990's. In
1997 I was using a 1980 one. I turned over for
Sep and a picture of Mickleham Woods, Surrey
was there. The caption, "Mickleham lies in the
beutiful valley of the River Mole, about two
miles north of Dorking, and has many literary
associations. George Meridith was married in
Mickleham Church, and lived at Flint Cottage
where he wrote "Diana of the Crossways". Near
Mickleham, too, at Burford Bridge Hotel, Nelson
spent his last night in England, on his way to
the battle of Trafalgar." So many resonances
to the news of the previous day, I was spooked!

Even stranger than ghosts appearing to people - it could be illusion, hallucination, mistaken identity, is that they can be photographed. A video of some very unusual and possibly ghostly activity can be seen at this site: http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...mmercial+ghost.

I dunno, I've been posting here regularly for the last two years under the name space cadet, and am a pretty established member here. I hope no one gets us confused. I don't like the idea of someone being under the impression that I wrote something that I really didn't. Aren't you a bit worried about the same?
Don't get the impression that I'm trying to make you feel unwelcome or anything.
In another thread I mentioned some of the problems we had in an old house trailer when I was a kid. As far as I'm concerned they were ghosts until something better comes along.
My Mom lives in an old house in a small mountain town. By old I mean, built around 1890. It's pretty much common knowledge for any who visit there that three loud raps on the front door won't be answered since there is usually no one there. Less confusing way to say that: It's common to hear three loud raps at the front door, only to find no one at the door or running down the street. THe only time it ever happened to me, the front door was open and I was sitting 10 feet away. I could see most of the front porch, and after peeling myself off of the ceiling checked outside and saw nothing. It was a sunny afternoon.
I work in a hotel now. What good is a hotel without a few ghosts right? Since I work alone at night, I'm hoping to run into some odd stuff. So far there have only been three things that I can't explain.
1 From where I sit, I can see the elevator doors on the ground and second floors. Every so often, the elevator will decide it really needs to be on the second floor. The door opens on the ground floor, then rises to the second floor and opens again. No one gets on or off and if they opened the door to push the button and didn't get on, I'd see them anyway. When I asked the people who have been here a while about it they say, "Oh it just does that sometimes."
2 Some nights at 3:30 am I can hear music. Like a radio in the disatnce. I can't find the source though. It's loudest in the lobby to the right of the desk (nearest the outside wall) but I can still hear it at the far end of the second floor, (about 50 feet away). The other night I was sitting in the lobby with the Girlfriend and she heard it too. I said it must be 3:30, and checked the time on the phone. 3:30. By the loud I mean that I think it might be Journey, but I can't ID the song, it's too quiet.
3 One night I smelled something burning. I walked the hotel to try and find the source. It was strongest near a ground floor exit. There was no smell outside. Since there were no occupied rooms in that hall that night I opened the rooms and the smell was not present at all in the rooms. About then a couple of guests came in. A mother and her 20-ish year old daughter. I asked them if they could smell it. They could. I asked if it was a familiar smell to them, and it was. The smell of burning hairspray, like when it's sprayed on a hot curling iron. That was what I thought it smelled like, but not having enough hair to spray, or use an iron, it seldom comes up in my daily lifeI purposely did not mention what I thought it smelled like to them until after they identified it. It lingered for about 2 hours and never dissipated in all that time, then it just wafted away.

Is that hotel anywhere near a radio transmitter? If so, your ethereal music could be RF "bleed."Originally Posted by Tog_
Define "close". I'd say it's about 1.5 miles away. There is one AM and one FM antenna. I live about 800 yards from work CLoser to the antennas) and we used to pick up the AM over our home phone. It wasn't bad when it was classic 50s and 60s music, but when the sold out to Radio Disney... well you can just imagine trying to carry on any form of conversation with "Staaaar Trekin', across the universe, ont he starship Enterprise under Captain Kirk..." which played with alarming frequency, and could only be heard on our end of the phone.Originally Posted by Archer17
If that was the case, what would recieve the signal? The strongest sound came from an area between the desk and the ouside windows. THere is a wall with the fire alarm panel near by and two narrow AC/heat vents. There are 4 in the lobby and the sound was not strong near the other two. Hosnetly though, the burning hairspary one was the one that freaked me out the most. If I can smell something burning in a hotel, I really want to find the source.

Alot would depend on the power of the transmitter. We used to have a nearby radio station (maybe 2 miles away) crank out 50,000 watts and it would come over our phone and things like a tape recorder. I can't vouch for this, but back when it "burned the air" with all that wattage I remember someone that lived within a half a block of the transmitter claiming their basement plumbing carried the broadcasts! I don't really know if that's possible though. I would imagine that if it is "bleed," it would come from something like hotel speakers (think piped music).Originally Posted by Tog_

Hey space cadet. I joined here in 2003 also, when I first got my computer. I had only about 20-30 posts before they changed it to baut. Like I said, it is not a big deal, I will change mine when I come up with a better name. Its not that big of a deal, and those who think it is, you have too much time on your hands.BTW, I doubt anyone will confuse us, (refer to the above mention of avatar). Not to sound snotty, but it is just a name, and who copied who?:surprised
We do have speakers in the lobby, but they're not active. They proabably still have power though. They are ounted in the ceiling of the econd floor so they are 17 feet from the ground and it's louder on the grist floor than the second. I thought maybe it was a radio in another room coming through the ducts for the AC, but it's definately louer near one than the others.Originally Posted by Archer17
I'm not saying It IS ghosts, just that it would be cool if it was.And right now, it's a good an explanation as any I've come up with. (I figure a girl about 14 from the early 80's; to explain the age of the music and the smell of burning hairspray. heh heh heh) I never did think about the radio station though... I wonder if they play any Journey. (It sure sounded like Steve Perry)
