Thread: Mirror Cleaning

What's the best way to clean the primary mirror in my 8" dobs? Remove it and use a cleaning cloth? Put together a bunch of straws that will reach 4 feet and use canned air?

    No cloth.

I used rubbing alcohol (with a gentle emphasis on the rubbing).

With mirror flat, pour on alcohol and let it get inebriated. After a few minutes, tilt mirror and dump more alchohol and let it flow off. You can then rinse with water but you must put more alcohol on after that because you don't know what's in the water. Hopefully the alcohol and then water takes off most dust...you don't really wanna rub with alot of dust.

I also gently swabbed with cotton swabs with the alcohol (not water).

Turn mirror on edge so the last alcohol dump flows off and you can watch the mirror dry.

Alcohol dries up quick, so its best for eyepieces--and monitors, TV screens, and windows too.
