Private space launch to be announced

New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson reportedly is ready to announce the first in a series of launches from his state's new Southwest Regional Spaceport.

Up Aerospace Inc. of Unionville, Conn., said Richardson would make the announcement during a Wednesday news conference in Santa Fe.

Company officials said their SpaceLoft rocket will make a sub-orbital flight carrying seven experimental and commercial payloads for a variety of scholastic and business entities. After traveling into space, the rocket and its payloads were to land in the Spaceport's downrange area.

Date of First Launch Set for New Mexico Spaceport

A launch date has been set for the inaugural flight from the New Mexico Spaceport, a site officials hope will become a new hub for space tourism and other commercial launches.

UP Aerospace, Inc. today set Aug. 14 as the official date for its SpaceLoft XL rocket, which will carry dozens of private and educational experiments and payloads.

I personally had to subdue two Guadus and threaten a QQuallaiiiin before I was allowed to enter the spaceport inner circle.

It wasn't easy, but thankfully the QQuallaiiiin is a sucker for MREs. I had a good Spaghetti and Meatballs in there from the first Gulf War.

After that, it was simple - I presented my ticket to the Euro-American Space Federation (EASF), who performed the routine background check, paid my 43.27 Million Montars, and boarded my flight.

Since then, it's been quite wonderful, the weightlessness, the inner L-hubs. I've heard, though, that those warping out-planet would be given rather laborious duties. What do you think the liklihood of that happening?

As a former citizen of New Mexico (yes part of the 50 states), expansion of new industry is necessary. Sorry to say it is on the opposite side of the state from Roswell, NM.

There was the Urinal; it was simply too tall to be practical. Coming in third was the Toilet -- but some of the female judges complained about the seat being left up. Finally, a close runner-up was the Bidet, but its dramatic water-fountain feature pushed that proposal over budget.

Re the phallic nature of rockets, I hate it when people use it as an argument against spceflight (like "boys playing with big rockets for freudian reasons"). Ok rockets are tall and standing up, deal with it and come with a real argument against space flight. Trees are also tall and standing up, yet nobody argues I go hiking in the forest for Freudian reasons.

(btw there is a difference between Freudian and Phallic; freudian objects can come in any shape, as long as they are used as an extension of the ego)

Ehm...it was a joke...its ok to laugh, really. I was more focused on a spaceport that looks more like it would need a bikini wax than a lawn mow.

All they need now are two hangar's shaped like domes in the proper orientation and it becomes the other Houston Control. Unless they really meant it about giving birth to the civilian space age.

Re the hangars and bikini wax: lol indeed, somebody took some liberty when designing that building. Remember it's a spaceport, people WILL see it from above!
