Hi all. I've been listening to Astronomy Cast for ages and have just enrolled in Swinburne's online Masters so I thought I'd join up here so that I'll have someone to help me when I get stuck on my homework. :-)
Greetings... ellenjanuary, Gwynnite, and prophet of god...
I came here looking for Dark Matter...but simultaneity, information theory, and putting an end to the Inflationary Corollary are also of interest.
Although a rule about "substitution of symbols for swear words being banned" kinda worries me...
Hi Artemisia, Arnold, and ellenjanuary, welcome to BAUT. Yes, the rules here can appear quite strict, but it does make for generally cordial conversations. Most of us view that as a major plus, and see that the requirements to watch our language, be nice and other rules are needed to prevent some of the nastiness you see on other boards. Getting away with infractions isn't a matter of being liked, but your behaviour in general can be a factor when the mods decide if a warning (PM or public) or a more severe punishment is in order.
A spammer, most likely.

I'm Mike (bet I get called Bill a lot...) and this forum deprives me of a lot of sleep. Long time lurker, ashamed to admit I enjoy the ATM and Conspiracies forums as much as I do. (I don't ascribe to any, although I think an oscillatory universe is particularly elegant.) I look forward to joining (or starting) a discussion or at least ask a question or two.
Mr. Gates? Is that you?Enjoy your continued stay, evilbill!

Hello, my name is Philippe, people rarely call me Phil.
I'm 21, a French Canadian (but I'm super bilingual), am a student at University but I am currently taking a year off from studies to just work and save up money.
I've lurked a few times in threads here that were of interested to me, but it's only recently that I saw some where I really wanted to voice my opinion. So, since only members can post, I am going to try and join this little online community.
One of the main reasons I visit here is for my eternal quest to find realistic science. See... a while back I got into online roleplaying, thought it was fun, but nothing much was got out of it. I felt the continually conflicting approaches of all the authors to be too disruptive.
Lately though I've been moving more towards completely independent writing. Might even consider writing a few short stories. Anyway, one of my preffered genres is science fiction, and in my time roleplaying I've noticed that most pop-culture science fiction is woefully innacurate in a lot of points.
One of my main goals, if I do ever end up writing a story or a book, is to make my story as scientifically accurate as possible. I know that many experts and semi-scientists visit this site, so I do hope that people might be able to help me achieve that goal when I come here for help.
For example this thread here: http://www.bautforum.com/space-explo...-possible.html is the one which has attracted my attention lately.
Hi Philippe, welcome to BAUT.
In case you were wondering, your post was in the moderation queue (an anti-spam measure for relatively new posters) because of the link in it - even though the link is to our own forum. The software is pretty smart, but only up to a limit.![]()
I see, well thank you for that clarification. I was wondering why such a delay was needed.
Hi Spiritinthesky, related to the one on Mars? Welcome to the forum!
(please note, these posts will soon be moved to the general welcoming thread)
