Hello there everyone! I stumbled across this forum after typing "Realistic Space Combat" in Google's search bar and began haphazardly absorbing what there was to read since. Unsurprisingly, an interest in space combat (primarily the theoretical and sociopolitical aspects of space travel) is what motivated my joining the board, but it also led to my general interest in astrophysics and hypothetical science.
I hope everyone will find my posts helpful and conducive to discussion. Thanks for having me.
Hi niellwyn. Welcome to BAUT
Hello, my name is David Myers, and I recently posted a rewrite of Steven Kimmel's "World Builder" in Perl as part of my web pages:
http://home.comcast.net/~dwm042/worl...erl_notes.html
I started looking at some of the other world building software out there, including "Stargen" and noted that if you ran "Stargen" with the -M (create moons) option, you could occasionally get double planets, two terrestrial planets in the same orbit. Obviously they could occupy lagrange points, but the more interesting issue from a science fiction point of view would be the day length, high and low temperature, tides, etc, of the two planets as they orbited their center of mass.
It became obvious, reading here and there, that double planets have a high probability of becoming tide locked. And for now, the best discussion I've seen on the Internet of tidal locking for the novice is here, in a currently active thread.
Hence I'm here.
David Myers.
I have moved this from the separate thread on its own into this thread which is where new posters are to introduce themselves - Sticks

Hey guys, girls and the rest :P
Just a post from me to say a big hello. I'm semi-active on astrochat forum if any of you have heard of it.
Recently got into astronomy, I have been working on a site for it, www.starhopper.info
Look forward to learning from the community, been browsing for a good hour in here before I clicked to register, and I look forward to making a contribution as and when I can here.
Peace and space teddies, clear skies, and LGMs if you are that way inclined.
Iniaes
Hi iniaes, welcome to BAUT.
Space teddies?
By the way (now I'm wearing my moderator hat), I merged your post into the Introductions thread
Hello, everyone, from Jeff in beautiful Calgary, AB.
I cannot tell a lie ... I followed the Moon Landing Hoax proponents here. Was feeling a bit nostalgic recently and doing some reminiscing on Apollo, only to find that there are those who are convinced it's all an elaborate fake. Was not even aware that such folks existed.
Nevertheless, I'm encouraged that there's still a vestige of common sense out in the digital wilds. Also, that the rebuttals here are not just kook-bashing (which would be entertaining for a little while, but not very enlightening), but are liberally peppered with pertinent technical references and intelligent scientific arguments. AND more than enough links and attributions to keep my nostalgia fueled 'til rapture and beyond.
Most of which I'm sure you knew already.
Just wanted to say hi, though.
Thanks SwiftJust though I would plop the post and hope for the best and yes space teddies xD
Hi Torch2k, welcome to BAUT.
If you are interested in the moon landing hoax stuff, look around the Conspiracy Theories forum. And yes, HBers (Hoax Believers) still exist.
Hi, I'm Scott! I'm 12 Years old and I come from U.K. Scotland.
I love space, I always wanted to be an astronaut, but then I thought about safety and how much it would cost. So When I'm older I want to be a writer!
I joined this forum because I love talking about space and the planets and the stars.
So I hope I'll stay here forever!
(I have read the rules!)
Hi Scott, welcome to BAUT.![]()
Don't let your reality checks bounce. ~MeI'll tell you in the next life, when we are both cats.
Welcome, Scott.
If you are 12 years old, you might just make it to being an astronaut AND make money doing it. The tourist pay, but there is always the professional staff!![]()
Welcome to BAUT Scott, I have merged your thread to the introduce yourself thread, hope you enjoy your stay here.

Hi everyone!
So obviously, I'm new. I've lurked for a while, just amazed at some people's (conspiracy believers) amazing ability to ignore reality. Figured it was time to join officially, and maybe join in on some of these fun discussions.
I've been a fan of space-related topics since I was little. My dad had a telescope and taught me the names of the planets and constellations. And I played hours of Starflight and Project: Space Station on my Tandy computer. So there's my level of expertise for you
For what it's worth, I say keep up the good work, all you spreaders of knowledge here![]()
Welcome to Baut EternalFrustration.
Hi! I'm a recent college graduate, who finished undergrad in physics. I grew up reading sci-fi books and wanting to study the stars. I enjoy building things, painting things, and figuring out how stuff works. Glad to meet you all!![]()
Welcome aboard Chelltime.
Hello, my name's Mark. I used to have an account here, but I lost all the info and have come back after a bit of a hiatus. I'm taking an astronomy course in college right now and I'm an avid reader of science fiction. I'm back for all the interesting discussions, and hopefully some of them will pique my interest enough for some of my homework journals associated with my class. Every now and again I read Dr. Plait's blog, and I keep up with some of the things he posts on Facebook.
P.S. - Is anyone still around doing work on Orion's Arm? I always thought that was a really neat project.
Welcome back to BAUT!![]()
