Bas Timmerman ....Hello..... and a warm welcome to BAUT.

Please do not worry about your 'English'. It's just fine, just dandy.

For example, there are 34,500+ members who have joined BAUT. As of today. From all across our world. We all speak different languages. I feel there is no need for you Bas, or any one else to apologise, for how one is able to use English to communicate here on / in (see?) this forum.

I agree with Neverfly...and include me too.

Hope we'll be seeing you around BAUT, Bas!

    best regards

Hi Bass Timmermann welcome to Baut,

My English/ German plays havoc with my spelling and punctuation but as long as everyone can understand what you are trying to say then it will never matter.

I have been nailed over it once but I just said get over it you knew what I ment!

    Greetings

    Hello, all.

Came here after reading the Bad Astronomer's blog recently - glad I found this site, as there appears to be a lot of good info and resources here.

    A bit about myself -

I've been very into astronomy for years now. My Father, a retired university professor, showed me a lot when I was a kid (including one magic evening when we viewed all 8 (then) planets in one night using a Celestron 8" set up in the back yard of our home in Westchester County, NY.

When I went to college I took Astronomy Lab from him, then assisted him a couple times as a lab assistant. I was very fortunate that he was teaching at Alfred University then - the Observatory there has 5 major telescopes available for students, ranging from a 9" refractor to a 32" reflector. All but the biggest are used by Astro Lab students - somewhat rare in astronomy instruction today.

I haven't used a telescope in a while, though, as I'm a career Soldier. I've served just under 17 years Active Duty so far. I've been a few cool places and seen a few cool things; currently I'm deployed to Iraq.

I'm online using the same (user)name on a couple military-related forums, a couple science/evolution related forums, and generally around and about.

Anyhow, that's me in a very small nutshell - feel free to ask if you would like to know more.

    Introducing myself

I'm not sure that I'm writing this in the right place.

I'm Australian, born in the late 1920's, have a rather limited formal education but have maintained a lifelong interest in physics. I've developed a theory about electromagnetic radiation and relativistic gravitation which could do away with dark matter, the Big Bang and the expanding universe. Hasn't everyone?

In the real world I had the unbelievable good fortune to witness (from a commercial aircraft) the re-entry of Apollo 13 into the Earths atmosphere. Any disbelievers in the moon landings should talk to me.

I guess this is more than enough for an introduction. What I've seen in BAUT so far is extremely interesting and much of it in line with my ideas.
    Thanks, Peter

    'Ello! I'm Elles.

I run the blog Splendid Elles. Yes, I was on the blog a few days back... I've been silently lurking on Phil's blog for a while before that and finally decided to join the forums.

    Welcome to BAUT.

Bad Astronomy is one of the two websites attached to this board. It is called that because it is Dr. Phil Plait's never ending fight against all the myriad ways that people get astronomy wrong!

If you'll click on the "Bad Astronomy" text on the left of the banner image of the lunar astronaut, you can have the Bad Astronomy web site explain to you what the Bad Astronomy marketing concept is.

Or, for the impatient, go here: Bad Astronomy introduction.

    It's a book. It's a website. It's a career path.

Never ending sounds apt. You will be banging your head against that wall until the universe collapses.

Hey, progress is slow but it does happen. Back in the '30s, Flash Gordon's spaceship flew around from planet to planet without ever leaving the atmosphere, and with sparklers smoking away to suggest some sort of rocket engine.

Apparently the public accepted that back then, just as TV audiences in the '60s accepted whooshing starships.

    Hum,
i am just passing through, but i have logged in again to check out how the site is going and hopefully, in the future, share some news stories.
    i have not come here to spam, look for a fight, or be victimised;
i am just a mad scientist, pure and simple.

    If you have a problem with that, then PM me, and I'm out of here;
    No problem.

  25. Greetings from sunny Costa Rica

After reading a few threads, I wanted to introduce myself to this community. I look forward to sharing ideas with other forum members in regards to space and our future travels beyond the stars. I always wanted to live the life of Starbuck in Battlestar Galatica.

    Best regards,

    Richard

Hi Richard, welcome to BAUT. You are the first member I remember mentioning they are from Costa Rica. My wife and I visited your beautiful country 3 years ago and had a splendid time.

This seemed to be the best to explain why after having a bit of a presence here, I have dropped out the last few weeks. I have not seen any unanswered questions for me.

My life has changed. My job has been exported out of the country again and I have a new one, in the daytime, and it takes up so much of my life it leaves very little time to enjoy this Good Forum. This is much to my regret and I miss it here, but life is what it is. For that reason, I must revert to lurker mode until I get time to do this forum justice.

    I wish you all well.
