I believe the conspiracies exist too. They are works of fiction, but they do exist

oh! gotcha... No truth is, I have watched my fair share of conspiracy docs. What bugs me most are people who believe whole heartedly what they are told by the government without hesitation.

    ie. sorry, wasn't being sarcastic.

Remember that any content you provide re conspiracies must be related to astronomy and space. If you do post appropriate conspiracy material, please be sure to have read Rule 13 before you read the responses to your post.

Read the FAQs, especially the rules, and have fun.

Good luck, Ceebsies, with your career choice. If it's astronomy, then, please definitely keep us posted. I can see you eventually educating us on what you're learning.

I'm with you, Eleniar, re TOS and TNG. Best of luck escaping the Borg.

reidenschneider, how's that new edition of Shakespeare coming along?

    Nice desktop, fffizzz!

Spend some time here, Tyro, and you'll find that when it comes to astronomy and space science, you'll have to change your nickname. Just kidding!

Sendo: Vancouver, eh? Any movies currently in production up there?

You know, bunker9603, we have so many members from Ohio that sometimes I think the BB description should be changed to "a forum for the discussion of astronomy and space science, and a place that provides Ohioans with something to do."
while i have rebound first folio's i have not started a "new edition" of shakespeare/shaksper.

is there another reidenschneider in this community?

Yeah.. all the time! My office is in downtown, and they always take up our parking spots with movie trailers...

In fact.. haha.. My car was in scenes from that new movie Invisible as it was taken right outside my office...

    Hello everybody.

First post on the BAUT forum, but I've been "driving by" here for awhile, and have been reading the Bad Astronomy website for even longer.

I'm not an astronomer (just a simple country molecular biologist) but I do occasionally do some observing, and I have an interest in all things science.

Thanks for the link. Great read. I agree completely and read much on the debunking of astrology. I was baffled when a Russian astrologer filed a lawsuit against NASA for $300M for smashing a probe into Temple 1 back in July 2005.

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/europe/4649423.stm

Furthermore, the "astrological" impact of Pluto's demotion. Pluto is still there, so it should effect nothing. But ... the astrologers say...

Another thing that puzzles me is "financial astrology". The only ones who profit are the snake oil salespeople who push this fluff.

I chose 'sagittarius' not only because it is my zodiac sign but the centre of our galaxy, the Milky Way, lies in the direction of Sagittarius. Also didn't astronomers recently discover a small galaxy in Sagittarius that is crashing through the Milky Way?

Thanks again, 'The_Radiation_Specialist,' for the link and great read! I hope to have more discussions.

Hey everyone, I've been lurking here for literally years but finally decided to sign up. Name's Jay, I'm 25 and I'm a geophysicist (and after years of study it gives me great pleasure to finally be able to say that.) I'm currently located in the world's second-biggest London (the one in Canada if you were wondering) but that will probably change soon. There are some really interesting discussions here so here I am to contribute.

    Hi Jay200MPH!

Is the 200 mph indicative of something -- like a F3 tornado?

Welcome. Looking forward to hearing more from you.

    Intro

    Hi everyone, my name's is
Carlos Javier, I am 26 years old and live in Puerto Rico (Just moved here amost 3 months ago actually). I've always been atracted to the night sky and our universe, I like science and math, but my knoweledge about astronomy is pretty basic. I am here on a quest to broaden (did I spell that right?) my horizons. After taking a glimpse at a few of the posts I decided I had to join. I feel I can learn a lot from all you guys and gals here @ BAUTF. I'm glad to be onboard, talk to ya laterz.

    Hi

    Hey y'all!

Name's Jim. Living and working in N. Georgia as the techical manager of a small cabinet shop.' Middle aged, almost qualify as an old fart now...

I have a Tasco telescope, I think it's a 60 x 900, with a busted equatorial mount, that I bought for $20 many years ago. Didn't use it till recently, and then it surprised me. Picks up stuff pretty well for a cheap scope.

I got together with a few friends the other night at a Hog roast and when the sun went down we broke out a few telescopes. I'd left the Tasco at home, but there were enough telescopes it didn't matter.

The one we really had fun with was the 8" Newton, with a Dobson mount. It picked up good detail and was really easy to use. Since then I've got the bug, and want to build one...

    But that's another thread...

So in order to find some answers to questions (see above) I went looking for an astronomy forum and found this one. So here I am. I'll post a few questions on the equipment forum in a few.

    See ya around.

Welcome Jim! You've found the best Astronomy and Space forum on the web.

NOTE: There may be better telescope-making websites - others here can point you there if need be.

I am not sure you are supposed to put email addresses in posts, you may want to edit that out.

Could a moderator tell us if there is such a prohibition?
