    Welcome to the BAUT, chipfle!

Read the FAQs, especially the rules, and have fun.

Man, with a paralyzed left arm, how do you manage horse riding and skiing?

Meanwhile re "nailing anti-science types", be sure to go to the Against The Mainstream and Conspiracy Theories forums. Lots of 2x4s to be nailed there.

    Welcome to the BAUT, KnyghtsInWhyteSatin!

Read the FAQs, especially the rules, and have fun.

This BB is about astronomy and space science. There are areas for topics that diverge from those areas, specifically the Off-Topic Babbling forum (where you first posted). But even there we discuss a lot of science and astronomy topics.

This is probably one of the premier places on the web for folks who are curious about astronomy to ask questions and find what it's all about.

    So, ask away!

Hello everyone, and Welcome to BAUT!

Hi, Matt "The Tube" Crowley here. I've read Phil's book, and have followed his goings-on through MySpace and JFEF. I'm interested in general science, with a particular emphasis on skepticism. I'm particularly interested in the whole "moon illusion" issue, though it's really a psychological issue, not an astronmical one.

I've got a webpage at orgoneresearch.com whose emphasis is mostly on Bigfoot skepticism.

I missed seeing Phil lecture here in Seattle several months back, as I understand he had an adverse reaction to some Emerald City food...

Well, maybe you can get a chance to ask him about it here on BAUT

I'm going to have to look at your bigfoot site. In the meantime...
    "The Tube?"

Is that a toilet paper reference? You may find yourseslf needing to explain that...

Welcome to BAUT and stay OUT of the doughnuts

Hey Bad Astronomy friends out there. Just thought I'd take a sec to introduce myself as a person who is interested in the big questions of life, the universe, and everything. I'm one of those who would argue that for most persons today, science has become the new religion, as in that no one seems to dare question the the status quo anymore.....or do so at their own peril. I have a lot of thoughts regarding alternative science that I'd like to share with the right people. I'll have a look around and see if I can find any common ground with other members here.

    Thanks

    Hi everybody.
My name is Colin and I've been an off and on reader of Phil's website for a couple years, (curse those things outside of my apartment and away from my intarwebs!)
I have just recently made up my mind about seriously getting into Astronomy for a career, and this website/forum was the first thing I thought of joining... where better than to learn some helpful stuff outside of the classroom.

Looking forward to some lively debates and interesting conversations!

    Welcome, Swift! Are you "card-carrying"?
Well, actually yes, I do belong to some of the organizations that the expression has been applied to. Though I don't usually carry the actual cards on my person.

    Call Me Eleniar

    Greetings and Felicitations,

I am a 43 year old electronics associate at the Borg entity known as Wal-mart. At least until I get to move to Books-a-Million later this year (hopefully).

I am a child of Star Trek and in particular Spock. I would like to specify that I am a child of Star Trek but only of TOS and Next Generation. After these two series they lost a lot of philosophical value you me because I tend to avoid shows that concentrate on the violent aspects.

I am a philsophically minded pacifist but not a passivist. I will not engage in aggressive violent action but will defend myself if necessary.

My interest lie within the areas of astronomy and space exploration with a liberal sprinkling of other scientific interest.

    I have five kids.

    In Peace,
    Eleniar

Is it odd to realize there was was an introduction thread after more than a thousand posts? hmmm
Anyways, I am The_Radiation_Specialist and I just turned 16. Others call me TRS for short.

My interests are maths, science (astronomy), learning how everyday things work, learning how the universe works. Other than that I spend time building mechanical robots form LEGO technic, making time-lapse photography, browsing teh intertubez and social news sites (such as digg) and some other things. On weekends I like hanging around with friends, going for some coffee or to play billiards.

I like the Q&A, off-topic and science forums as there are lots of smart people here and you can learn a lot from them.

    Take that as a compliment.

I'm thinking of setting up a poll asking "how old do you think TRS is?" I might be surprised by the results

    Well actually no, I won't.

  25. #1045
Especially because now we all know you're 16. Kinda takes the guessing out of it. You could set up a "how old did you used to think TRS was before he told us his actual age" poll though

    Hi James,

We have rules here on the forum to help people avoid offending other people, and to keep discussions about science and astronomy and not about personalities. You've had three identical posts removed because they were political. You are very welcome here, but please read the rules, and follow them.

    Hi all

Im 28, live in south florida and some time this year started becoming fascinated with the thoughts of whats outside of our atmosphere. Im very new to this stuff, and with the help of tucson_tim realized ive been looking at venus on the early morning sky. Always been a follower of the bad astronomy blog, and never realized they had a forum until today.

    Anyway, Hi all.
