Hi all, I'm 21 and live just south of London, England. I have always been interested in the night sky without really investigating it. I don't have a Telescope but am looking to invest in Binoculers. I have been lurking around these forums for several mounths now and so I thought I might as well join.

Hello, I'm Christopher, back after something like 18 months. I see the board is as alive as ever.

Not sure how often I'll be able to contribute - my work situation is still very different than it was 18 months ago, so this type of "luxury" is going to be rare...

    Hope everyone is doing well.

    Hello all!

My real name is Elizabeth and I have a ** in Astronomy. I'm currently not doing anything hugely exciting but that's just as well, as I've lost enough sleep or procrastinated just reading through some of the debates and information here while in school.

    Hello, I am new here

I found this site from Google while browsing on astronomy topics.

I was a physics major in college until Uncle Sam changed me to a career military bandsman during the Vietnam era. I must admit that I have forgotten much of what I studied back then, but I still may be able to help on technical stuff in various discussions here. I am usually pretty good at separating science from B.S. (bad science) from pseudoscience.

I have been lurking for a few days and I have spotted some threads where I will try to be enlightening.

Here as in this forum, or here as in at your school?

If the later, what are the hot topic for debates these days?

    And welcome aboard of course.

Hi Everyone. I'm Karla from Texas. This is a wonderful site. Unfortunately I am more fascinated by astronomy than knowledgeable, but that's why I enjoy this site so much. As for age, I'll just say I'm older than a lot of people here, but still younger than dirt. Anyway, glad to be aboard.

Its a great site for learning as well, so don't worry about the knowledge- you won't be able to help picking it up

Debates weren't huge in the classroom, mostly from lack of any opposing force for any given argument. What I remember most is discussing models of the universe and Big Bang. That wouldn't be a debate so much because of lack of an opposing side. Just one professor who researched to prove one thing trying to present opposing ideas as neutrally as possible.

Campus is a different story. The biggie? Young Earth Theorists. I haven't seen any anti-evolution groups near as much as I see these groups. But I hung out mostly around physics buildings and not biology buildings so my perception is likely skewed there.

On an individual level: astrology. There are enough people who think that astronomy and astrology are interchangable and that I can give them an accurate horoscope. Which I can: "You will do some stuff at some point somewhere."

I graduated less than a year ago so I am no longer in the university atmosphere, as much as I loved it.

But I also love following debates here in the forum. I don't like blind learning, I like to hear people question things and see what comes from it.

Heya. I'm Bastian, a 20something and recent transplant to Chicago, IL, USA. Got here from Bad Astronomy, of which I've been an on-and-off reader for years now. I'm mostly just hear to see if I can leech others' knowledge.

Hi I'm broton (you can probably see that already ) and I used to frequent the board under the name of Harold the Barrel, many years ago.

I'm a pretend scientist (i.e. computer science degree) but have always loved astronomy. I've learned a lot from this site and its previous selves so I'm looking forward to learning some more
