    Hey Henrik

From the last 2 sentences in your signatures I've got to ask if you've read "Godel, Escher and Bach" or "Meta Magical Themas" (Douglas R. Hofstadter)?

    Just Curious!

    Ciao, Dale

I have, a long time ago.
That wasn't the trigger for finding those two combinations (the only ones possible in that specific format) though, that was just because a friend asked if it was possible to make them so I took the time to try.

    Hi all,

I'm an astrophysics graduate and science communicator currently residing in the South of England. I'm a very keen observational astronomer (blame Patrick Moore, he insists that I use his observatory ) and I'm heavily involved in local astronomy projects, including a charity.

Over the last few years I've encountered so much bunk related to my field on the internet I've just had to step in. I'm a long-time lurker of BAUT, so I'm well aware of some of the fantastic 'debunkers' who frequent here, and I hope I'll be able to contribute something to.

I also know it's a great place to get questions answered, so I'll be sure to be posting a few in the future.

    That's all!

    Hello

I'm from Amsterdam, and if i'm lucky i might be able to point out the Big Dipper (its the one with three stars in the middle, right?) I'm here to learn a bit more about what i'm seeing at night, so expect a lot of stupid questions.

To make a living I work at a place called the Melkweg (Milky Way), so I figure I'm on my to be fine amateur skywatcher.
    See you in the forum!

    Hi PinkStar, welcome to BAUT.

By the way - this is the Big Dipper (obviously the lines are added) - is that the one you meant? Depending upon time of year, location on Earth, etc., it might be oriented differently, but it is always that shape.

The one with the three stars in the middle is likely Orion.

Hello to everyone on the board, I'm a 31 year old guy from Scotland with an interest in spaceflight particularly during 1960's and 70's. I'm by no means any kind of expert, but I'm hoping to learn a lot more and make a valid contribution to the forum where possible.

    Hello everyone!
My name is Piotrek and I am 22 years old student from Poland.
I became interested in astronomy about year ago. And recently I bought my first telescope.
I hope being a member of this community will help me to understand more about the science about the Universe.
    Best regards!
P.S. I still learn English so I am sorry for any of my mistakes.

Hi Nightwalker, welcome to BAUT. And your English is fine, 1000 times better than my Polish.

    Hi!

I'm from Norway and I like programming and experimental physics.
Working on a theory that try to describe how patterns in logic equals patterns in the universe.
For example, the way we think when we solve an equation can equal a hidden law in the universe.
The challenge is then to describe how the universe can "think" without a brain and this seem actually possible.

To me, it's not important whether my theory can be proved or not, as long as the patterns are self-consistent.
When things work and give sense then I'm happy.
Seeing forward to get known with you people and hoping your minds are open for new perspectives.

My webpage is not very fancy, but I recommend "Photon rendering" where you can look at some great pictures:

    hello

Hello all, my name is Adam, I'm from South Carolina. I'm just starting to really get into astronomy, although I have been interested in all things space related for a while now. Anyway, I am an environmental scientist for the state of south carolina, I do radiological and non-radiological monitoring around the savannah river site. I am looking into buying my first telescope and starting to take some amazing pictures with it. Thanks.

    Welcome to the community aardvarktype1a.

I'm awful sorry to hear of your wife's passing. My condolences.

Were you heavily into astronomy earlier in your life, or was it a passing interest that you're now expanding on? Either way, I'm sure you'll find some great people here to answer any questions of whatever level of detail, point you in the direction of helpful resources or just have a pleasant chat with.

I hope you enjoy your time here.

Are you kidding? The blueness of the site is slightly less blue, and the contract is slightly less contrasty.

    Welcome back!
