Not in yesterday's episode, but the one from the week before.

The Simpsons install a satellite dish and we're shown, in slow motion, waves being emitted by the receiver, bouncing off the dish, and arriving at the satellite in orbit. I always thought the satellites sent signals to us, but slow motion doesn't lie.

Okay, so I know you're joking here but the signal was shown being sent to the satallite so that the monkeys on board could switch around the plugs that sent various TV shows back down to Earth.

This was a very funny episode, even if it did contain some bad (radio) astronomy.

I teach physics and constantly use the Simpsons for jumping off points. Whether its discussing Homer trying to jump Springfield Gorge on a skateboard, the antics of Lance Murdoch, Lisa's perpectual motion machine, the toilets in Australia, or Homer's theory of a donut shaped universe, they always seem to have a good example I can use in class!
