Or it could be that the two objects are spinning, and experiencing huge tidal heating as they slow down, with the lighter object releasing more ergs per gram than the heavier one because it is slowing down faster.

It could be an observational glitch, or serious problems for low-mass evolution modeling.
Note that the diameters of these objects are huge (seven times larger) compared to older more stable brown dwarfs.
