Thread: Bad internet ...Incubating the new mythology?

Heyfolks
Hate to admit it but I used to spend time on the Ufo side of the world, stumbled into planet x and ended up here.
I noticed I First ran into "The Dulce papers" on the 'net then later found paperbacks in mall bookstores. Seems the net is the place where a new mythology is being hatched and fed to popular culture. "Dulce" New Mexico is a town Near Kirtland AFB where supposedly Our government is in direct cahoots with greys/klingons/romulans/ reptilians and jabba the hut. The 'net posts pages and pages of purported "history"in great detail on this place.
Such as: the internal mutiny where The we lost 66 soldiers to infighting under ground and a chamber of horrors where "grey aliens" had vats digesting human cadavers for nourishment etc.,etc.
This mimics the planet x stuff and the moon hoax stuff. Both of which which buries the reader in hundreds of pages of"EVIDENCE" mostly so you don't want to read too much. But it must impress the some people. Some of this stuff is pages of gibberrish with key words sprinkled through out so people see highlighted technical terms like "resonance". "reluctance", or "reflection coeficient" and and get the impression hey this is some pretty technical "stuff" here, the author must know what he is talking about
This seems to be a common thread of these scams?
Real Discussion: Where would these mythologies be without the 'net for easy and cheap distribution?? What does this portend for "non bad astronomers"(i.e. "it must be real I saw it on my computer").Kinda'scary.
Any thoughts?

Firearms hmm...been there sold that.Guess I'm an equipment nut. I could write "How to take $5,000 in firearms and turn it into $25.00 cash in your spare time". While feeding on gum mag trash I always wanted to trade up, 'til my wife stepped in with the un assailable "didn't you have one of those already??".Let's see 3 .44's,an AR,several shotguns a .54 muzzleloader, .357, and most regretably a stainless combat commander 1911. Wish I never sold that one, got to really like the .45. We carried cut down .45's when I belonged to AF OSI.one thing didn/t sit well with me. With firearms as a hobby ... Even at the range you are destroying something. I spend time now with my 35mm camera.
This is waaaaay off this board.
Most fun? I did get to qualify with an MP5 and an uzi while in the service..the MP5 rocks. The uzi fires from an open bolt so it quite literally rocks forward and back while firing. I found it easy to control but it takes some getting used to it 'til you don't notice it anymore. Thanks for replying, don't wanna' use up anymore board space...

Most of the 'mythologies' that you mention would not get noticed without the net powering them along. The main reason for this is that using non electronic methods for diseminating information is generally quite expensive, printing and posting costs ect. Or you have to have some really whacky idea to get on the idiot box (anybody remember David Ike?).

So as with all things we have the internet to thank for allowing crack pots (like DJM) to post whatever they like.

correction: the ufo/alien myths stem from cave art, the sumerian myths, The Holy Bible, The Koran, The Talmud, The Epic of Gilgamesh and many more ancient and "religious" texts.
sure, the net is a medium where any "crackpot" can post info or "evidence", but those "myths" come from our supposed earliest ancestors and their cultures.
Read the first chapter of Ezekiel and think about what is happening to him.

How about what the text says it is?

vs. 1: "...I saw visions of God."
vs. 3: "the word of the LORD came to Ezekiel the priest, the son of Buzi, by the Keber River in the land of the Babylonians. There the hand of the LORD was upon him."
vs. 28: "...This was the appearance of the likeness of the glory of the LORD...."

No. The belief in UFO's and aliens are a decidedly modern phenomenon. The idea didn't arise until astronomical knowledge let us know other worlds were out there. From that it was a natural stretch to assume people on those worlds. But even then the belief really didn't take off until the UFO craze began in the 1940's.

All attempts to find UFO's in ancient texts such as the Bible are nothing more than retroactive interpretations based on modern UFO ideas. There is nothing to prove that they are really depictions of UFO sightings or alien encounters. They can also be and have been interpreted as religous visions, hallucinations, simple fiction, or other phenomena.

Good effort Nebularian, but what about those verses in between? Verse 5 sums it up: “Also out of the midst thereof came the likeness of four living creatures. And this WAS their appearance; they had the likeness of man.” He was referring to, and with great detail, the LORD as some “creatures?” Some hallucination!

OK, I concur. However, there is nothing to DISPROVE that they were depictions of encounters, is there? And I'm well aware of the "visions, hallucinations and allegory" interpretations so often given them. But isn't it interesting how the "simple fiction" or "visions" of HG Wells, Jules Verne and the likes have actually become fact? When they wrote their works it was inconceivable to think that there would be genetic splicing, space travel, satellites around the earth and so on. And as we surpassed those achievements, we looked back and said, "wow. what "visions" they had."
Anyway, just curious.

ps. i'm hooked on this place!

No, the LORD is on the throne in the vision. The creatures are below the throne, and Ezekiel mentions them first probably because he noticed them first.
[22] Over the heads of the living creatures there was the likeness of a firmament, shining like crystal, spread out above their heads. . . .
[25] And there came a voice from above the firmament over their heads; when they stood still, they let down their wings.
[26] And above the firmament over their heads there was the likeness of a throne, in appearance like sapphire; and seated above the likeness of a throne was a likeness as it were of a human form.
[27] And upward from what had the appearance of his loins I saw as it were gleaming bronze, like the appearance of fire enclosed round about; and downward from what had the appearance of his loins I saw as it were the appearance of fire, and there was brightness round about him.
[28] Like the appearance of the bow that is in the cloud on the day of rain, so was the appearance of the brightness round about. Such was the appearance of the likeness of the glory of the LORD. And when I saw it, I fell upon my face, and I heard the voice of one speaking.

The creatures referred to in the book of Ezekiel are good old fashioned angels. You would be correct in saying that the Bible speaks of aliens, because strictly speaking in the context of the Bible, angels ARE aliens, not being native to Earth and all. They may not be as exciting to some folks as their vision of high technology toting "Greys" or what have you. Although angels do have those cool flaming swords. Light sabers anyone? LOL

Yeah, and the book of Revelation mentions the "four living creatures" surrounding the Throne as being covered with eyes and wings. "Greys" don't hold a candle in comparison!

The internet also allows the more informed populace (such as ourselves) to distribute knowledge to people world-wide. I think the distribution of knowledge far outweighs the damage that the internet causes. -Colt
