    This topic is really political, but that's why we have the "Totally Off Topic" section. I have always questioned weather or not the United Nations is really helping the world in anyway. Personally, I think the UN has failed miserably in it's mission of keeping world peace and improving the economic conditions of it's members. Here's why;

    The United Nations was founded right after WW2 in order to prevent another major world conflict and improve the economic and social conditions of it's members. Every independent country on Earth except Vatican City is part of the UN. The first thing I'd like to point out is how un-democratic the UN is. Democrecy does not rule the UN, economies of well-developed Western countries do. The UN's General Assembly is where leaders of poor, un-important countries can give there 5 minute (time alotted) speeches that have absoulutly no effect on the major decisions the UN makes. The Security Council is where wealthy countries with powerful militaries can give speeches that can last 2+ hours that explain why their particuler country is going to invade another country which is also a member of the UN against the "suggestions" of the other members of the Security Council. The recent war in Iraq is a PERFECT example of this. The US invaded Iraq aginst the suggestion of the Security Council because Powl had "evidence" that Iraq had WMDs which it shouldn't have had in the first place because Iraq is a member of the UN. The UN's ecomonic and social mission has failed too. I sit on my couch swiching through my TV channels when I come across images of 5 year old children DIEING from HIV Aids. Later, I watch an episode of "CNN Presents" about how children are being sold as sex slaves in Romainia to rich citizens of countries like Germany and Italy. The next morning, as I drink coffe and watch the early moring news, I learn that the Polish Prime Minister has resigned because he only has a less-then ten percent approval rating yet somehow, most probably through the corruption that rocks the Polish government, was elected into office. All of this happening under the "watchful" eye of the UN. People ask; "Why are so many people dieing in Africa?", my answer is; "Because the money that SHOULD be helping the people of Africa, is going into makeing buisness between Germany and France more profitable for those countries." This means that countries that are rich, will grow more rich. And that countries that are poor, grow poorer. Then, the people of the poor countries say; "Hey, let's all become terrorists and rage a Jihad against the rich countries!" All of this happening in a world where almost every country is part of the UN. What do you think?

    The problem is the current government that they have. Either they dont have enough money or they dont have a strong enough government. Or while Im at it, its the governments thats the problem- they take advantage of the people and the people dont know better. And then thats where terrorism and guerrilla warfare come into play. There ends up a big civil war where the countrys torn apart. Well, thats my opinion..

    Totally Off Topic is not for political discussions. See The Rules!

    This could turn really ugly. Let's stop it now before it does!
