This is a photo taken of Mare Imbrium and the Northern Highlands in the North West Quadrant using my Meade Lx-90 telescope and a basic lpi .

I just got the scope and I'm still playing around a little, so I haven't got to layer any images or process them in photo shop yet. Hope to make the next images of the Moon even better.

From Earth we always see the same side of the Moon. The special effect is know as synchronous rotation meaning the lunar rotation period coincides with its orbital period. The Moon's gravity is strong enough to pull the water on Earth's Oceans slight and thus gravational attractions is what creates tides on Earth.

Luna17 ( A Russian probe launched in 1970 )landed just a little south and west of Sinus-Iridium , while Luna2 and Apollo15 were at the East of Mare-Imbrium. Apollo-15 touched down on the 26th of July 1971. Astronauts D.Scott, J.Irwin and A.Worden returned 78kg ( 172 lbs ) of Moon rock samples back to the Earth for study.

Nice moon shot and detail...I think though that the picture you have posted here is actually larger than the picture on your website???

    seeker372011 ,
it might first appear small but I think you should be able to click on 'full-size' and view the bigger version of the Moon photo in that link

That is a nice photo; and down on the middle of this site is some interesting, enhanced closeups of the Lobachevsky crater, and an area map.

I havn't been there, so it's just some interesting trivia, that has no sound basis in fact, yet

The Sea of Rains is a nice area to look at Notable at the northern edge
of the Mare Imbrium (Sea of Rains) is
the 95 kilometer wide dark crater Plato.
Hopefully the sky will stay clear

Here are a couple of images of the moon taken with the most basic of equipment:

a home made 70 mm refractor-no tracking, this refractor is mounted on a dob style mount

a no-name webcam purchased from the markets for A$ 30

    processing in photoshop and NEAT

While obviously image quality will improve greatly with the quality of the equipment you use, here is a example of the sort of results one can get with equipment that all together cost well below $A 100 (not including the cost of the PC and software of course)-of interest perhaps for those who own more modest scopes

The point is that even if you don't have a very sophisticated scope and/or imaging sytem you can still produce some images that may keep you going till such time as you eventually upgrade ....

Seeker, the 2nd one looks like a little too much noise (ie: detail) was reduced in NeatImage..

    First one looked great though.

I agree.. actually on review I feel the first one was sharpened a tad too much-too much wavelet processing in Registax-and the second one sharpened too little...

Should have done more work before posting.

There probably is a happy medium somewhere, will keep on trying....

Just wondering, can you manage to take a photograph of the US flag that was planted on the Moon?
