If string theory is right, then the way a string vibrates causees the string to become a certain kind of particle. What causes this vibration? What kind of "stuff" is a string made up of? An can anyone explain to me the idea of 2-D strings interacting with cured 4-D space to create gravity?

See, I think the string is energy, and what causes the vibrations are the particles that move on the string.
See, here is my theory: at the BB, two universes collided, one of matter and one of pure energy. The purenergy universe had these superstrings, the matteruniverse had the particles. As the universes overlapped each other after the initial contact, they sort of connected together as do pieces in a puzzle, until each universe fit uniformly "on top of" the other, so that particles moved along the superstrings. As particles move across, the string vibrates.
I believe strings are simply a pure substance, as are Bose-Einstein condensates.

Exactly. Strings, unlike quarks, have one flavor - flavorless. Strings have no spin, no resonance, no mass, no parity, no charge, no nuthin'.
