Has anyone checked out the latest Comet LINEAR lately? Sky and Telescope has a finder chart, and says it should be naked eye by next week.

Not too many naked eye ones, though.

Linear, Linear A, Linear 2000/A2. Linear 2.5, Linear Pi_r^2. Whoever this Linear guy is, he's spending entirely too much time at his telescope.

(That's just a joke. Of course I know what LINEAR really is. Still, my head is swimming with all these similarly named comets.)

Anyway, it looks like this one is going to be pretty hard for me to spot. It's in an area that's pretty close to daylight now, and I have to work late most evenings. Too bad it wasn't visible last month during the Leonid shower. It would have been a nice bonus to spot, even if only in binoculars (Which is all I have right now).

Well, since this made me curious, I just checked on the LINEAR statistics to see how many comets it's actually spotted. Looks like about 60 so far.

I'm also curious as to the "Unusual Objects" listed at the bottom. The data in the links doesn't say what they actually could be.

Right now, about 8pm, it should be about south, and a little less than forty degrees up in the sky, about mag. 5.0. Should be easy to find...
