Thread: Alternative Theories

  1. #1
I've added a new section for people to discuss alternative theories about space and astronomy. If you want to talk about a NASA coverups, a flat earth, astrology, Planet X, etc. Since Universe Today is a science-oriented website, there are a lot of skeptics here, expecting to see evidence when people make outlandish claims. If you make a post in another section which we feel is more alternative, we'll probably move it here.

Sometimes, though, the most original ideas in science come right out of left field.

All of the Universe Today forum rules apply here.

 At the risk of severe chastisement for abusing the boundaries set by the rules, let me suggest that a secular discussion of the religions of the world with emphasis on the impact, both positive and negative, each has had on scientific development. This could include a comparitive analysis of the influence on political and social environments and value systems that are more or less conducive to sound scientific thinking and progress.

Fiat authority for the religion should be excluded.

I hear most of the ppls said astrology actually is not science...it's some kinda sign study in the ancient time. Is that true?

I would be happy to have religious discussions on the board if they didn't all turn ugly. I'm sorry, but we tried in the beginning, but every single thread ended up with someone's feelings getting hurt. There are lots of places to talk about politics and religion, but not here.

    Thanks Fraser for this section.

Finally the Mars Rovers have sent back the necessary photo to prove a long-held theory of mine that earth has had Martians here for many thousands of years. They even brought their own Martian food, the lowly carrot.

Yes, rabbits are the martians who have hidden in a most unique and successful way on our earth. Eating their orange foodstuffs and, I'm sure, chuckling over their success in hiding their true extra-terrestrial nature. (Mars is orange because of the huge dusting of dessicated carrots)

Reproducing madly and existing in literally millions of hidden places, rabbits are well on their way of conquering earth.

Next time you see a rabbit, look closely and you'll discover a sly smile, that hallmark of a superior life-form.

Well, the latest images from the Hubble of the farthest it can see in the Universe just prove My conclusions of the false concept of the Big-Bang.

And when they get something 100 times as powerful, they will still see more and more galaxies.

This is the most powerful proof ever of the false concept of a flawed Big Bang creational theory of the Universe.

Of course, they will say the Universe is just older than previously thought, to rationalize, no matter what , to preserve our present status - Quo.

    It never HAPPENED.

You're right, Prime. This is meant to be the earliest "snapshot", and we're seeing full-grown galaxies, not quasars.

Am I mistaken, or am I reading that this is the first "snapshot" straight out of the Universe's "dark ages" (when photons hadn't lit up yet?)... So, in other words, the helium & hydrogen formed out of the Big Bang INSTANTLY formed galaxies?

I guess if "inflation" happened, and everything was happening faster-than-light, we could theoretically have galaxies formed within a few SECONDS of the Big Bang...!?

You know star cluster, the only thing that inflates faster than light, is the price of gasoline -

You're right, Prime. "Inflation" is a fudge factor. It ties it all together. But it's not observable...

So did the Universe just "appear" in all its glory out of NOWHERE?

If so, why does that imply a "God"...? (It might be "Gods"!&#33

this is a question that has always perplexed me, as to how and why and when etc

What, you mean I'm full of hot air? :P

Getting back to this subject of Big Bang/Creation etc... I find it difficult to see how it could have arisen from a singularity fluctuation of infinite density. How does a dimensionless "point" GROW into multiple dimensions? In other words, how can something INFINITELY small expand suddenly into a finite-sized universe?

I often wonder if this Universe is a laboratory experiment...?

Makes you wonder, especially when you read of physicists recreating "Big Bangs" here in labs on Planet Earth!!!

    It's scary!

On one hand, everything may be made of nothing, and this is all just empty space.

On the hand, maybe everything is still occupying the original infintessimal point. It just looks like it is getting more structured and refined from our point of view. Then time would be the appearant size of the universe from our perspective.

Are there any theories that explain the begining of the universe other than the Big Bang?

There aren't many theories that try to explain the beginning of the Universe (just the Big Bang theory springs to mind). Other than that, there a lot of different cosmologies around.

    Cheers.

many people believe the big bang is deeper than just there being nothing and then something. it could be a forever reincarnating event, which maybe could be called the Infinite Apolocolyptic scenario.

If the conservation of mass/energy holds and stuff is not allowed to combine with anti-stuff as a mode of mass/energy conservation, the universe can have had no beginning--restarts notwithstanding. It always has been and always will be...from everbeing to everlasting. This does not preclude its diving into a blackhole and, on re-emergence, drastically changing its configuration all the way down to the sub-quark level now and then.

According to the mass-energy equivalence premise and the connection of mass with gravity and the relevance of gravity with the geometry of spacetime, it might be useful to contemplate whether geometry, its parts, or whatever it is part of, is conserved.

......and God said "Let there be geometry with quantum uncertainity, and it was so. And God said "this could be good if we play it right. What will it bring forth?"
    [secularly speaking of course]

Hey.. somethimes it is cool to just think ideas that are bizzare and weird but thats what the universe is right?.. so heres some of my CRAZY ideas on the big bang theory

1.) A tear occursed.. (and if ur femiliar with string theory) maybe the leap from one dimention to another occured.. couseing a tear. Resulting in a GREAT release of energy.. aka BIG BANG

2.) or MAYBE that in a parrallel universe or previous universe a race (maybe even humans B) ) got so advanced and so ahead they discovered time travel.. and due to their lack of respect for such a power.. they pretty much destroyed their own universe by a single wrongly done time travel...resulting in the begiining of this one

    Well im off

Everything that exists, wether it be an elementary particle, or a whole universe, has an evolutionary cycle, and cannot stand still. Time moves on at every stage of universal development, which ensures progression in any possible direction. The big bang occured at the end of a previous cycle because of an impossible and unnatural state of staticity, which can only happen when the very last particles of the last universe faded away. This would cause absolute zero everything and there would have to be a turning point, to continue time. As absolute zero space cannot become less, it must become more, and extreme unimaginable heat would build to a critical point, where it could not remain contained. There may have been more than one explosion of this energy, but as each wave of energy was thrown out, it would have been instantly particulated by the absolute zero space. These particles would be so intensely hot, that their energy remains long enough to keep them active today, even without interactions with other particles. [There is no limit to high temperature, and only when all particles are absent, can there be absolute zero]. A second wave of explosion seems necessary to catch up with the first and disrupt the particles as they slow down and spread out to cool slightly. This would cause chaotic snookering of particles, and set them spinning in all directions. The interactions thereafter would be many, and so the protons and neutrons would soon be created from the quarks, and neutrinos would escape from the impacting energetic particle collisions. An overall rotation would stop these masses from moving out too quickly, but they will all continue to move away from each other in isolated masses as they grow further apart. This will be more noticeable today, as the universe has cooled considerably and become less interactive. It is more spaced out in large masses, so not enough energy influence is felt or shared among galaxies. The further away everything becomes, the quicker it will move apart, and the final stage will be very fast in emptying the universe. Dont worry though, there will be another one along very shortly!

I believe that it could be possible that our Universe is a singularity inside a black hole as it is possible that in a singularity of a Blackhole can reverse and become a universe just like the big bang also it could explain why gravity is such a weak force in the universe and what a black hole does with all the energy it collects.

I know there is no evidence to back up this theory but it is possible and a alternative theory to the origins of our Universe
