I doubt it... too cold and dry... this could be something fossilised though... are we looking at the first direct evidence of life outside the Earth?

Chris McKay, at Ames Research Center(Moffet Field, Ca USA), works with NASA and the National Science Foundation adn does research in Antarctica.

I remember Chris being interviewed and mentioning that they would pull up ice cores 2 million years old and finding frozen bacteria. They thawed them. The bacteria started moving around, still alive.

Scientists have pulled up rock cores from miles down in the Earth. They find live, anaerobic, rock eating bacteria.

There are bacteria that "breathe" iron.

Who knows what is on Mars, or where, or how far down or how cold.

I would think the further down you go the warmer it gets. Also,
what if there are undergroung caverns?
