Thread: Discussion: Your Pictures of Venus and the Moon

  1. #1
SUMMARY: I asked for pictures, and you sent them in… thanks! In fact, I received dozens of photos of Venus and the Moon last night from around the world. I've published just a sample of the pictures sent in. I hope you had a chance to see the beautiful sight last night - we sure didn't here in Vancouver (clouds and rain).

If you missed it last night, head outside tonight. They won't be side by side, but both Venus and the Moon will be bright in the sky, and well worth the trip outside. No telescope necessary.

    Fraser,

Could you possibly add where the shots were taken.

    A geographic location, etc.

Would be cool to compare from place to place on the planet.

Yeah, I'm going to include those, you just saw them too quickly. :-)

    Thanks Fraser.

The view as perfect on the prairies last night. We were out for almost 45 mintues taking a look, and thats saying something considering the windchill was picking up.

You sometimes forget how big hte moon can look with the naked eye. We had a nice view of the rest of the lunar surface through our little telescope too. Decent details though my son doesn't understand the man in the moon story. Kid is just to practical sometimes. "Doesn't look like a man to me!"

Regarding the Venus/Moon encounter. Tuesday evening, beautiful and clear, what a great night to view this rare occurance. Then I realised that I was 12 hours ahead of time. Being at 145 West means that I am half a day ahead of you guys in the Americas. The view was worth watching but next time I will take time differences into account.

Also being at 35 degrees South does mean that we get a different view of the sky to you northerners

    Keeping eye upwards

It looked pretty good here in lovely Luton, England. A bit surreal if anything although I think I posted that elsewhere *S* I'll have a look at the photos

Some lovely pictures, particularly Mr Ellis's..wonderful. Venus has been shining evry bright for ages. Is it close to us at the moment or have the skies over West London been given a good clean?

The sky finally cleared in Alice Springs, and what a sight! Truly a nice sight, and a few of my students were talking together about them!
