5 R3; 55 is divisible by 5 plus 3 is 58 therefore 58/5 is 5 R3

6 R4; 54 is divisible by 6 plus 4 is 58 therefore 58/6 is 6 R4

I read an article recently about people becoming faster at recognising patterns such as the one you wrote Faulkner. I cannot remember where, but there was a study on it.

What a stimulating forum! Nice to find people talking about other than sport, weather, TV and celebs....

And Sasha, I'd agree, use it or lose it! IQ is a one-dimensinal analysis of your 'intelligence', largely biased towards symbol handling. But we also have social, emotional, visual, etc intelligence.

The number doesn't matter, ultimately, so much as finding what you are good at, what YOU enjoying doing, because it's only by being true to yourself that you have any hope of happiness and satisfaction in life. Your high IQ should make that easier, but honesty, integrity, and compassion (especially with yourself) will help a darn sight more.

Don't lose heart if it all seems to be going wrong, they don't say 'life begins at forty for nothing'. It took me that long to sort out who and what I am, and I'm a Mensa-refusnik. (Sorry, the ego thing seems compulsory here)

In all that time, I've boiled down life to two rules:

1) Never run for the bus
2) Never take a job you wouldn't do for fun alone

and 2 is really a special case of 1...
