Well you can't look at the universe in a 3D way you have to look at in 4D, or more. The universe begun at the big bang, and MIGHT end in the big crunch.

    Where is the universe?
This is a perfectly valid question.

Quantum physics (upon which our entire science is built) states that there is no objective reality "out there". The universe is in our minds, we are sharing a common hallucination.

Doesn't it actually say that in order for there to be an objective reality there has to be an observer living outside of the universe? And given that the universe does exist then there must be an independent observer?

Well I'm from the Copenhagen school of quantum physics, ha ha! The universe ceases to exist when I close my eyes, ha...

I think what it sez is that the universe is a fuzzy wavefront of probabilities...there's no concrete, objective, physical "presence" out there, until we measure something...(at the sub-atomic scale, that is)...At the macro level, I think we can safely say that the universe exists. All that sub-atomic fuzziness adds up into something more or less concrete. Mass hallucination or not, it's our universe & it's our only reality.

The universe is inside us AND outside us...and the 2 are intimately connected. h34r:

Aren't the Gurus now suggesting that our universe may be a bubble on a sea of froth.

Too much for me, man. I just enjoy my Cornflakes and milk for breakfast.

It could be holographic,a multiverse of holograms all 4 dimensional movies essentially, coming from a core of permanent conciousness (god! for want of a better word),you could say that we (the universe/multiverse) is the supernatural result of something natural, rather than the other way round.
Much like dreams could be considered supernatural from the basis of thier reality compared to reality itself, your thoughts are(sometimes) supernatural but not solid.

Very philosophical i know but maybe you cant get inside the mind of god cos
WE are inside the mind of god,his thoughts so everything you think of is not your thoughts but this core of permanent consciousness.

In fact i think of dreams as a superposition, you only collapse the wave function when you wake up.

There may be some value in asuming that the universe begins wherever you are and ends at the furthest reaches of your ability to observe and measure.

But what of influences that come from outside?

P.S. I really haven't understood this very much, so pardon me if I'm wrong.

    Gourdhead:
You are usually very scientific and profound but to assert - "the universe begins wherever you are and ends at the furthest reaches of your ability to observe and measure" - means that the universe extends further according to the power of your telescope.

    What?

I merely suggested it may be useful to those who insist on a beginning and an end. I don't. If it's outside your ability to observe or measure you can ignore it. The only other thing you can do is speculate thus one guess is as good as another.

Then, what make our Mr. Independent Observer exist ?
