Hi y'allWelcome to the forums!
Sorry if this post is a bit belated, but I only started posting here within the last few months. My name is Greg Smull. I am 33 years old. I am a physician in Laconia, New Hampshire. I am far enough from light pollution that I can now see the milky way at night. This is spurred renewed interest in astronomy which is how I wound up here. I graduated summa cum laude from Muhlenberg College in Allentown, PA where I am originally from and I trained in Philadelphia at Hahnemann, Temple, and MCP university hospitals. In college I had a strong affinity for Geology and Ecology but as a pre-med student took and excelled two semesters each of Physics, Calculus, General and Organic chemistry so my knowledge range is pretty broad. My knowledge is fine tuned in biology and the medical sciences from medical school, but I'd appreciate not being asked personal medical related questions, as I technically cannot answer them in public for reasons that may or may not be obvious.
Welcome to the forums Greg, and the other recent new members.
I don't think refraining from personal medical questions will be much of a problem.
But how about your opinions of the effects of space travel and very long periods in space? Can we solicit those from you, as well as possible solutions to the problems they pose?![]()
I actually haven't looked into the matter extensively. I do pay attention when I come across the material, but I have not avidly sought it out as yet. Needless to say I would be the right person to analyze such data since it would be very easy for me to make fair and sound judgements it (rapidly if necessary). I also probably know more already than I think.
What I do know is that zero-G has some very negative effects on one's health. This is alarmingly so when it comes to maintaining bone density and muscle strength. If you were to pay attention to how weak Russian cosmonauts were after prolonged stays on Mir, you might already be aware of this. Most needed several months of physical therapy to regain normal strength and bone density probably takes longer to fully recover. Essentially if you dont use it you lose it. In human beings bone is constantly being turned over by osteoclast cells and reformed by osteoblasts. Without the stimulation of gravity induced stress on bone, the osteoblasts slow down and bone simply dissolves away due to normal osteoclast function. So any attempt at a long mission in space should involve the use of artifical gravity (rotating the spacecraft) so that the astronauts can actually function when they arrive at their destination or back on Earth. I have serious concerns regarding astrnauts going to Mars and how functiojal they might be after 6 months in zero-G.
Hi Guys,
I've been on this forum since July (I think! ) But I never really introduced myself. Hi, I'm Luc, But I've been called Zodiac for as long as I can remember. I'm 39 years old from New York City. I love space and Rocketry. I never really looged on here that much but now I'll start to do so a lot more. Bye for now, Zodiac
Hi-
I suppose I'll introduce myself. I'm SkyBoard, kinda like "StarLab," except different username, same person.
You will find me in Human Spaceflight and Observational Astronomy
You will find StarLab in the last three forums of Space and Astronomy
I hope I'll remember what I posted here!![]()
Or, as MenInBlack agent Jay put it: "we all confused, Kay!"

Hi-
My username is Fraser_Abel (a bit of a pun) and I am to SkyBoard as he is to StarLab. Note that all three of us have the same Avatar
I will be present only in the Universe Today half of the UT forums.
Fraser, I love the site!![]()
Is there some benefit you expect to get this way? I'm sure I'll recall that you three are the same guy, but new users won't pick up on it very fast, and I'll have to do three searches to see the full list of everything you've posted.Originally posted by Fraser_Abel@May 22 2004, 08:15 PM

Forming opinions as we speak
There's no benefit, actually - just thought you guys should all know. Just ignore it. I just thought It'd be a fun fact. :P![]()

Ummmm... why have three usernames?? That's just going to cause confusion.
I'm just experimenting, seeing which one I like best in the long run...
My real first name is Grant, so to unconfuse yourself you can call me thatB)
Do you have multiple personalities as well? Some forum members do.
I don't, nor do I want any - as I said, I'm just doin' some experimentation...![]()
That is probably a potentially dangerous statement to make, but I do see your point.Do you have multiple personalities as well? Some forum members do.
experimentation? so that is why i feel more like a guinea pig today!
What? I didn't say that.

Maybe I should make a short note of introduction about myself.
Though I haven't had the time yet to meditate on who I am or want to pretend to be, I do know I prefer to be known as someone who knows a bit of the knowledge which currently seems to be the accepted (representive) facts of reality and ..
I don't hesitate to let my (set) limitations spoil my day and will use any knowledge/tools to extend beyond my limits to solve problems which happens to present themself.
isferno, that sounds like a good plan to me![]()
Hi, Everyone!
I'm T-rouser, the newest member of UT, I guess.
I've done a few posts here, so I thought it's about time I join and obtain member status.
Keep it up, Fraser!B)
Hi T-rouser
Welcome to the madhouseWe hope you have fun

Thanx, DH!![]()

StarLab, why are you posting as T-rouser?
Why register yet another username and then pretend you've never been here before?? It just causes a lot of confusion with other users.
Oh! Is that so, DH! Tell me, how many people besides yourself do you expect realized T-rouser was yet another username? I actually enjoyed this username, and I'm sorry that I ever made that first multiple-username post in this topic! It is not up to you to take it personally or attack the other person when that person did nothing against you in particular!
I'm not taking it personally or seeing it as an attack - it's just very odd behaviour to register 4 or 4 usernames and then pretend you've never been to the board before. It's even stranger when you post something as Person B as a reaction to what one of your other username's has posted. It's just confusing for everyone. I'm not claiming there's any kind of malicious intend but I'd prefer it if you just chose one username and posted using that. Otherwise things are going to get chaotic because even though I can see you're the same person (because the IP's match up) others can't and that just causes a lot of confusion.
One username is enough for the other 2,200 users. Why do you need 4 or 5?
Why do you feel you have to think of it as the same person? :huh:One username is enough for the other 2,200 users. Why do you need 4 or 5?If only the IP is the same, that shouldn't bother you!

Case in point: at my school, there are about 10 computers in the library. Now, if different students used just one computer for UT, and each had one username, wouldn't that still be the same IP adress? I think so!
Yes but you've openly said you're using 4 or 5 usernames and like I said, if people don't know, it causes confusion. You've posted things as StarLab and then replied as someone else yet it's obvious that you're the same person. It's just very confusing for everyone else.
I think of it as the same person because you ARE the same person, you reply as the same person but you're using different names. Why are you pretending to be different people? Other people might consider that deceptive.
Only use one username please.
You want me to cut back?
Ok. That I can do. Just don't get on my case.
I'm not trying to get on your case... but I hope you can appreciate my concern. I know who you are but it causes confusion for others. Thanks.
