    Woo Woos in Full Rant.....

I checked the usual suspects, after the Hurricane passed us here in Alabama, boy!! they are in full rant and rave over the storm. C2C is claiming that George predicted it, while interviewing a Dr. Turi, who was abducted in France as a youth, and now has the "gift". Whitley is also making the usual claims, global warming, buy my book, join my club...etc....

I am wondering if there are any woo woos who are "honest" any more, and not trying to sell something????? Does the economic reality require this sort of thing, or is it just the age we live in???

Now days, even the true beleivers are trying to cash in by selling something.

Hoagland suggests that there's a hyperdimensional weather war going on...
Apparently Katrina had a pentagonal "hyperdimensional signature" :-?

    Hyperdimensional

Monique: There is a web site with all the supposed external manifestations of occurances that have this supposed source.....I won't dignify it with a link....look on google for "Richard C Hoagland"......

What this guy believes is, that there is a "Higher Physics", that affects us poor slobs, stuck here on the physical plane......He is really hot to trot for the shape of eyewalls in hurricanes, if it shows any regular polygonal shape, he goes nuts----ranting and raving about "Hyperdimensional Physics" IN addition, there is a theory, popular with the current crop of whackoes, that there is a weather war going on with US vs China Vs Russia.....etc....They think that the HAARP Project is being used in conjunction with "Chemtrail Spraying" to effect the weather........Without any evidence of course....They are all over the late night radio and the internet with this stuff, since the early 90's...

    Neologism

"Neologism" is the term for "True Believers" who make up words to explain their ideas.....I am not criticising any real scientist who has to come up with new terms to explain something that is the result of actual science, I am somewhat tired of people like RCH and others who make up official sounding terms for their otherwise unprovable ideas.....(Sometimes I think that "Glossolalia" is a better term for some of this stuff.)

    Greetings,

Back in the good old days (before being politically correct crippled good debate) we would call these people "kooks", and give them the attention that the deserve (nothing). But now they come on as "experts" and we now ignore them at the risk of giving them credence by not countering their silliness.

Why am I reminded of Scientology and its whole dictionary of made-up pseudoscientific words? I believe the word "quantum" sufferes as much abuse as dimension though - everything is "quantum" this and "quantum" that. #-o

There's still a Mobile in Alabama? It survived?

    I'm from Tuscaloosa (ROLL TIDE! :P )

We got downed trees and lots of power out.

I believe that some CT's are in it for the thrill. Some just like the attention they get when someone listens to their ideas.

And conspiracy theory is easy to cook up. It's soooooooooo easy, it's fun sometimes. I and a friend like to see how far we can take them!

Of course, the more outlandish, the bigger the conspiracy has to be to keep it covered. How big can you make one before it collapses into a black hole?

RCH must have been browsing this site. From within his own article:

Now, here comes the "woo woo" part:
    http://www.enterprisemission.com/weblog/weblog.htm

The 'negative' picture of the hurricane clearly shows a picture of Bin Laden. I'm surprised a man of his ability missed that 'clincher' detail.

I am endlessly amused by Hoagland bringing up the word "hyperdimensional physics" to explain those things which he does not understand. He invokes this explaination a LOT.

Oddly, for so strong an idea he never publishes the actual equations, nor does he post actual predictions based on his "idea" that can be tested.

Should he be right he would, no doubt, deserve a Nobel.

But he is not right, at least not yet, and his equtions are nowhere to be seen.

Sounds like "hyperdelusional physics" to me, but I am a cynic, right?

If I look at one of the pictures just the right way, for a brief instant I can see a Ferengi from Star Trek...

I've been hearing about Hoagland for quite some time, but this is the first time I've read any of his, um, "ideas." But:

All those who achieved their findings through painstaking research, hard work, and use of the scientific method. In other words who used methods foreign to Hoagland.

I don't think RCH would get a Nobel Prize even if some of his malarkey turned out to be correct. There is no Nobel Prize for the field of Lucky Coincidences.

BTW, I really enjoy running a spell check on posts such as these. Every time "Hoagland" comes up, I click "Ignore".

    I disagree, somewhat, gentlemen.

IF (and that is a HUGE if) Hoagies Hyped physics model was published as a real scientific hypothesis in a real scientific journal, and it proved to describe the universe better than the models Hoagie doesn't care for (such models as Maxwell's equations and reletivistic physics) then and only then would he deserve real scientific recognition. I don't think Hoagie will do anything of the kind. How can he do what he doesn't understand?

I did not mean to imply he deserves such recognition now, clearly he does not.

Terribly sorry for the confusion. My bad.... ops: ops: ops:

It's not a strawman fallacy. Gosh, it's been ten years since I took logic in college.

What's this called? When you invent your own set of physics that are too complicated for anyone else to understand, so you claim you're right because no one is even in a position to argue within your own parameters?

    Schizophrenia?

(A buddy here wants to know--- seriously--- if Rich Hoagland can connect any of his current weather control "theories" with the Nazis.)

Want some serious Woo about images of the hurricane?

Warning, link contains some profanity and lots of brain-cell-killing text. #-o Also note that this was an email sent to the site, not the blogger's own opinion.

That is the term Hoagland uses to explain anything he doesn't understand. He assumes that since he can't understand something no one else can either. Thus using a made up word about an idea that is at best half baked won't be noticed.

I have to put our UK news at 6.30 on the list of woo woos.

New Orleans as a city has ceased to exist. It will be a 6 months before it is habitable again. Can people ever live there again when they know Global Warming is going to make things worse.

News reporters have a habit of doing this. They all remind me of Kent Brockman now.

    My prediction:

I'll be generally sorted in a fortnight. People will continue to live there. Tourist s will still visit the place and the storms are going to be no worse than before.

GOOD LUCK NEW ORLEANS FROM THE UK. I'M SURE YOU'LL SORT THINGS OUT

He received an IgNobel in 1997 for the face on Mars etc. when he was just getting started. He did not attend the ceremony.

    Images in Katrina?

Just a question for the Mondo Whacko crowd; "Why do you trust the satellite images from the Government that you do not usually trust???"

Hoagland's "Hyperdimensional Physics" - that must be that mathless physics that is so complex, we can't fully understand it. In other words, "Intelligently Designed Hyperdimensional Physics". As Curley would say, "Woowoowoowoowoowoowoowoowoo!"

    Untrustworthy Government Pix...

Captain; I think the idea of internal integrety is unknown to these types...I did see one web site, which I have lost the url of, that on one page, they had faces in Hurricane Ivan, on a seperate page, a rant against trusting NASA, because they altered weather photos!!!

Same with Hoagland, he does not trust NASA, but he uses their satellite pix to"prove" his hyperdimensional physics.....

All of the woo woo aside, would it be possible to manipulate the weather? I know we can seed clouds, but what other things are possible with current technology.

For instance, could an artificially generated heat low in Africa be generated that would send a wave into the Atlantic?

Could upper air pressures be munipulated to guide a storm....if not now, could it at some future time and what technology would be needed?

I am certain that such technology and know how would be a very valuable asset to the military. The weather is an uncertainty that all field generals would like to be able to eliminate. Say that we could find a way to generate dry air intrusion to weaken a hurricane...how would one do that, what would be needed technologically?

Even a more valuable question would be, if we could manipulate the weather, would it be wise to do so? What would be the consequences ecologically speaking?

Well, it was only a matter of time. Someone on GLP is now claiming that the evil gov'mint used HAARP to send the hurricane into Louisiana, just so they could declare martial law. #-o
